Wanted some recommendations for campsites with good cycle tracks or good places to cycle nearby. Live near dartford tunnel in essex, anywhere within about 2 hours would be good, but open to any suggestions.

Hmmm, not sure about within 2h or not, however, Thetford Forest is a dream.

High Lodge can be expensive, as it charges by the hour, rate in Jun 09 was 1.60 GBP per hour. However, I paid for a week's pass at 15 GBP, and I reckoned I used it up in the 4 days I went to High Lodge.

I once drove from Thetford to Lakeside Retail Pack and Ikea in less than 1.5h 17, so in theory, it is doable in 2h.

Check out my site review for the CCC site where I stayed in Jun 09. Lovely place.

Hi Becca

If your talking about mountain bike riding I can recommend the south downs running between Brighton and Arundel. Spectacular views, lovely countryside. We live in this area and can recommend some sites if your interested. For flat easy cycling try the cuckoo trail (disused railway line) we stayed at Horam manor very good. Can recommend others as well if you could be more specific in type of cycling you want etc.

thanks,
wilbur yes mountain biking, i don't paticularly like hills but my other half doesn't mind them. But if its worth it for the views then i wouldn't mind hills.
Some recommendations would be good, will look into horam manor and the cuckoo trail as well thanks

Having just camped near Devizes I'm now hooked on walking// cycling the Kennet & Avon canal with my dogs in stages. from the canal shop at Devizes I bought a map of all the UK canals. Can be made into round trips of course. Just an idea as a project. Half the fun is in finding the new sites to try.
