I have a question!  We have been camping for the past few weeks and are planning to go camping for another week (don't have to be back at work until 1st August).

What campsites in the UK have the largest pitch areas for tents (preferrably England or Wales, but Scotland tips welcome too as we will probably camp there for a week next year)?

We like to go camping to take walks in the country and for my partner to practice violin in fields but at the same time be close enough to a village where we can walk to a pub and back (don't like to drink and drive).  Sometimes we like to come back and play cards until midnight.  We are not rowdy (we are a couple) but at the same time don't want to whisper and worry about card shuffling being too noisy for our "nextdoor neighbours".

At the same time, want a campsite with loos and showers.

So any tips on campsites with large pitching areas (more than 6 metres) would be great.

THANKS!

Most commercial campsites that we have been on tend to only have "pitch sizes" for caravans. Tent areas are just a field with no designated areas.

>>>  be close enough to a village where we can walk to a pub and back  <<<

Any campsite with this facility will probably have a strict silence after 11pm rule.

Not because of the noise you may or may not make playing cards but from the fact that experience in the past will have shown them that the proximity of pubs to campsites does not usually promote common sense and consideration for other campers peace and tranquility.

Good luck with your search but I doubt if you will find any campsites in Scotland with the facilities that you are looking for, that also have no quiet rules.

Try Fforest fields in mid wales. really relaxed wardens, open camp fires and lots of space to walk to pubs etc. It is absolutely beautiful. Plus lake to swim in but a bit cold! Great area to bike ride too. If you go, walk to 7 stars in next valley and try their beef and ale pie it is fantastic but get there before 2pm!

Thanks for the feedback so far guys (more welcome please!).

James will look into Forest.

Lobey, when I say walking distance, for us I meant within a mile to 1.5 miles.

Michael, we are having that fear of the booking situation with school holidays - we may have to look into adult only as we have no children.

Again, more suggestions welcome!

THANKS!

Check out the Camping and Caravanning Club's 'large tent' page. It might help!

I have not advertised my van. Mzzy.

Ill health has forced us to mothball it for this year and we will think about it again next year. May sell it, may start using it again. We will just need to wait and see if the health situation improves.

Then again, if we got a decent offer, we'ed sell it tomorrow.
