Argghhh having a mare on where to go for our first trip out in the tent for over three ears We were looking at the Cumbria area and would like a site that has some kind of play park for the kids 10 and 13 and also one that takes dogs, not too remote but not too busy either. Have found a few sites that I thought looked brill, but then read reviews on here and TA and some are mixed bag and its putting me off
Just wondered how much notice you take of reviews before you book somewhere?

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Sometimes reviews are universally good but a lot are a mixed bag. You can't please all of the people all of the time. If there's a common theme in the reviews that is going to be a problem to you, avoid that site. Try and look beyond things that may have been specific to someone's visit, e.g. noisy neighbours, torrential rain and flooding, midges.

Tend not to really camp on the doorstep, so to speak, anymore. Did it for a while when the girls were smaller but not now. We have never taken a dog either (she goes on her own hols when we do) so no idea who will and won't.
Caster is right Knights Stainforth is in a good location - though not Cumbria it's very near.
Anywhere at Pooley Bridge is near enough to Penrith and Windermere but far enough away iykwim
Wild Rose at Appleby would be OK
Lowther nr Penrith
Low Park Wood nr Kendal - but think that's just Caravans only as it's a caravan club site.
The C&CC site just past Morrisons in Kendal is a nice site and the Warden seems friendly - has a play bit, near enough to walk into Kendal but just out and think it takes dogs.
Park Cliffe, Windermere is lovely and the wardens are great - is very pricey though. Great place and plenty of walks for the dogs and good play park. Buses go past end of road up to site so you can get into Windermere etc and Barrow the other way. You can do a walk into Windermere too and also go up the hill past the Scout camp and on to Winster etc.
There's Pennine View at Kirkby Stephen but I don't think it has a play park for the girls (space but don't think there is equipment) but there is one in Kirkby Stephen and also great places to walk the dogs and space to play at Parotts Park, Franks Bridge and at Stenkrith (river you can get in to swim).
I hate Ambleside, Keswick, Windermere, Grassmere etc etc at this time of year as everywhere is way too busy and it takes ages to get anywhere.
