Syke farm campsite in buttermere
http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=5856
We go there a lot. It is basic though, but has showers etc that need 50p and are fine. No hot water for washing dishes.
Its in a very beautiful setting with a stream running through. There are 2 pubs and a cafe in the village and nothing else (take cash). There are some wondefull fell walks from here (Haystacks).
Unfortunalty it has become a more popular site since featuring in several national papers (gaurdian, telegraph), but you can always find a pitch. Its best out of season though. Dogs are not a problem (we always take ours) but sometimes (not seen this for some years now) the farmer lets some sheep in to keep the grass down. Dogs are meant to be kept on a lead, but our dog sticks with us (once she has got over the crazy excitment of arriving at the campsite running around like a mad thing) and has no interest in sheep or poultry so we dont bother with the lead on the main and the farmer doesnt mind. They are very friendly. £7 per person per night
