We will be travelling from Huddersfield up to Culzean at the weekend. As we have a 5 year old we will be stopping for a break on the way. We will have food and drinks with us so not bothered about facilities but would want a toilet. I think we will be ready for a stop sometime just before (or maybe after) we leave the M6 at Gretna Green. Any suggestions.

the first service,s after gretna have a caravan only parking area used this as a stopping point loads of times, culzean great site excellent sun sets ,you can spend a great day in the castle grounds
enjoy.
Gretna services are nice. We often stop at them when going north. Even though we have only just about set off - there's always one who didn't need to go but after an hour in the car is absolutely desperate!!
Why not thry Westmorland services just past J38 - excellent - but keep your wallet in the car.
The toilets have just been refurbed and they have the most amazing hand dryers (sad I know). YOu sort of put your hands 'in' from above and they are really powerful. Dry hands in seconds
I probably didn't make sense when I posted and I probably posted on the wrong forum. I was just looking for a good place to stop for an hour, I noticed that other people had been asking the same thing so thought I would ask as well. I must learn to speak more clearly, I have a habit in real life of assuming people know what I am talking about when they don't
We're staying at a Travelodge at Southwaite near Carlisle when we go on holiday in a couple of weeks, was originally going up to Highlands when we booked it but had to cancel due to financial reasons, I think it has a Moto Services there too, don't know if this is any use. As we couldn't cancel the room we've arranged our trip around it and will be staying there one night before going on to our campsite at Ullswater - all's good!
------------- May/June - Spring Valley
Aug/Sept - Leekworth

Yes, Southwaite services are just this side of Calisle.
There's also Rheged - very easy to while away an hour or so there and I would highly recommend the brand new 3D (no one else has this very latest state of the art technology) cinema (screen the height of 7 double decker buses) and the film Fly Me To The Moon. It's brilliant.
Rheged is just off the Penrith Junction (J40)
We're travelling up tomorrow for a week, stopping at the Westmoreland caravan site tomorrow night for a stopover then up to Margowan Site in Killin for 4 days coming back down to The Ranch at Culzean, anybody been to any of them?
Know the area's pretty well as I am an Aberdonian now living just south of Leeds. Hubby is from Eire and he has to have his "fix" of Scotland at least once a year lol. IN August we are off down south, how do you put your trips at the bottom of your page?
We live 10 miles from Culzean so we normally travel in the other direction (with a two year old - amongst others).
We find somewhere around the Lake District a good first / last night stop - about 3 hours drive. Off the motorway onto the A66 you have loads of sites. We've used The Quiet Site and the C&CC site at Keswick in the past.
