I agree with the last post, however, I do often wonder on some of the bigger sites over several fields, why site owners don't allot pitches differently, i.e. put families nearer to play areas, than couples pitch familes with similar age children together, I've seen many a child fed up as their new found friends are a field or 2 away, or couples surrounded by families with excited energetic children.

I doubt it would work all of the time but might make a difference some of the time, maybe requests with bookings may help

Beadnell Bay in Northumberland does something like this with a families field, a couples field, and (I think) a mixed - seemed to work pretty well.

There seem to be lots of brand new campers out there this summer. Can I make a plea to you all to remember  - tents don't have walls. Therefore, if you're drinking, laughing and chatting until the wee small hours you're probably keeping your neighbours awake, and they may not appreciate it!!

Very true, but please don't stop the arguing in the daytime, I've spent many happy minutes earwigging in on peoples rows! you hear EVERY word, the one last weekend was a couple having a rather heated debate about sausages!17

This weekend just gone our neighbours started up their car (diesel of course!) at 5am and left it ticking over for a while before (finally) leaving for a day out.  I could hear it even though we were in the caravan not a tent and I was wearing ear plugs. 17

However according to my brother who was staying in his tent on the pitch next to us. without ear plugs, they also had a heated row before leaving so at least I was spared that.

I agree with the no noise rule after 11pm and also try to be quiet until about 8am. But try telling that to my 9 month old granddaughter, who on her first camping trip last weekend was dad dad dading and mum mum muming at the top her her little voice at 5.30 am. she didn't understand the sshhs from her mum. 17 What can you do then?

I'd say your 9 month old granddaughter can't really be expected to know any better; kids will be kids and most people understand and are willing to make allowances on things like this, within reason 17.

It's the blatant disregard for other people that I object to. We spent a lovely 4 nights at the most perfect campsite in North Devon recently, marred only by a group of 2 families in the tent opposite who were playing a DVD so loud one night when we got back that half the campsite could hear it. It wasn't even particulalry late, but the volume was excessive and it went on for an hour an a half! If I'd wanted to hear a film in surround sound I would have gone to a cinema, not a campsite! I just can't undertand this mentality and would be mortified if I thought anyone was offended by me making noise.

I agree, there's not much you can do about normal baby noises.

It's so annoying though when the campsite owners dont do anything about late night noise. A family behind us also had 2 young children, quite noisy as you would expect, but the parents talking in loud voices at midnight and very early in the morning was very annoying, dont think they'd been camping before, they kept us awake till the early hours, I could hear every word they said. Also had 2 small yappy dogs tied up outside their tent that barked constantly every time anything moved near them, no control whatsoever!! 17

I think a lot of people who go camping these days are not really campers in the true sense of word. As far as I am concerned, consideration for your fellow camper is one of the most important 'rules' and in over 30 years of camping, caravanning and motorhoming, we have always abided by that rule.
But I think a lot of people who have taken up camping as a cheaper alternative to holidays abroad (stay-cation?), with the poor exchange rate, have never been on a campsite before. They seem to behave just like they would in their house, with solid walls, and play loud music, talk in loud voices and generally don't seem to realise that tents have no walls. They don't seem to have any respect/consideration for their neighbours.
I am not generalising, I realise that not everybody is like that, but it does seem to me that this is much more of a recent problem.
Interestingly, in France we've not experienced that sort of behaviour. On one site there were 3 French families opposite us, all with 2 kids each, in tents. They had a BBQ, sat outside, until about 11 pm. Yes, they were talking, the kids were playing earlier, but they didn't talk in loud voices, there was no radio or DVD, and by 11 they were all inside, and quiet!

Well, you could stick her in the buggy and go for a walk away from the tents...

the people next to us had a little one and what seemed to work was playing with him rather than trying to keep him quiet... quiet playing was a lot less intrusive than if he'd been shouting and they'd been shushing if you see what I mean.   When he got loud though we noticed that they took him out of the tent in his buggy.

I have been often treated to the sound of people 'courting' as my dad would have put it through the night when camping, so yes I also would like to remind people that tents don't have proper walls!

I was once situated in the middle with a noisy couple on one side and a young lady who had attracted a young gentleman on the other side. It was like listening to cable TV late at night.

People started shouting at them to get them to hurry up. If I'd been them I'd have been mortified but they just carried on regardless.

awnings too for sure.late nights with friends is fine if you stop at 11 pm or sooner.last week we had a child in bed and thought they would wake him but no.did not say anything as they were really nice people to talk too and thought they would be offended.worst one ever was a lady in a large tent across the road last year screaming at her four children day and night.

We originally gave up camping because the inconsiderate behaviour of others was so irritating it began to spoil an otherwise very pleasant pasttime. Now however, a careful choice of site (usually a small certificated club site with just a few pitches) does the trick. There are some adult only sites, and we never ever go anywhere where there is a club or bar on site.

Looking at how many people actually sleep with earplugs in is a poor indictment on the way thimgs have changed.

For the first time ever (on our recent holiday) we were disturbed by the tent behind us playing either a dvd or cd until 11.30pm, so in the end my husband shouted over to them to turn it down and to be fair they did. I wondered why it had to be so loud as you could hear it in our motorhome so it must have been loud in their tent.  (This was only last week so if you're reading this - you know who you are!) I find that everyone is usually quiet by 11 but then we don't go on sites with clubs etc so I am sure that makes the difference.

our daughter always takes her ds,and a small dvd player, but early or late we make her use headphones so she doesn't disturb people,i think the parents are to blame,it doesn't take much to keep your cherubs quiet does it.our worst time was at haven lakeland, someone was driving round in their car at 3 am with their music blaring, got to his van left his car running still blaring away.My wife stormed over and told him in no uncertain terms to turn it down as we had 3 young kids.he did, then was ok after this
