What a terrible shame - and a camper's worst fear.

For anyone who's been flodded out, hope you got all your kit out and its better next time.

We camped on the Keswick site last year in June and part of it was flooded then.  We had a narrow escape as moved from our usual pitch to another part of the site and missed being flooded out of our tent.

I feel sorry for them but had to chuckle when one of the campers said he was going back to sunny Somerset as it has been pouring all day here.

We watched that on our local news and then it showed studfold farm where we stayed last week...not exactly flooded but everyone was looking a bit wet.( I got all giddy just because it showed a site we have stayed at on the telly. ok sad I know! ) Its a shame when people get flooded out like that but looks like this is becoming the norm.

I dont mind the rain as long as we can stay warm and the tent stays dry inside...once that battle is lost its time for home, luckily we havent had a washout yet despite lots of rainy camping trips. Fingers crossed that everyone manages to enjoy thier hols!

Ullswater wasnt much better, we packed up and are now drying a lot of very wet equipment - Not because the tent leaked, because the pitch did and we had to pack up in a pool of water. It got so bad that we had 2 ducks swimming on our pitch!!

I saw that on news at ten tonight, followed by a story of how angry people were because the met office had messed up the summer weather forecast, leading to people to try their hand at camping in the uk,rather than going abroad.
It must have been awful for the people camping at the site.I really hope it has not put them all off camping.

I suspect a lot of newby campers will be very put off by this, rain is one thing but flooding is truly miserable. I would imagine many will call it a day and put the tent on e-bay and book the costa something next year. It's a shame the weather really seems to be following a pattern of very wet summers.

I must admit having been totally waterlogged last year, I've been very reluctant to book anything longer than a weekend in the UK this summer, I don't fancy having two weeks of solid rain. I can manage a weekend OK, but it's not much fun camping in wall to wall rain for days on end. Here's hoping the weather forecast for August is as naff and the sun decides to make an appearance.

They don't call it the Lake District for nothing

And looking at the weather for the West Country in the last few years that is going the same way.

We were flooded from our tent at a campsite in Tenby in 2007 although the tent (a Royal Montpellier 12) was actually fantastic, its SIG kept out the water even though we were in the middle of a lake nearly a foot deep - the floor was like walking on a waterbed though.

While we and our friends in their Vango Diablo packed up our tent and moved to a pitch at the top of the field (which took all day with all our gear) the caravanner next door was moaning about how his van carpet was slightly damp as he had left a rooflight ajar!!17

That turned out to be our last holiday in a tent, we had been thinking of moving up to a caravan and this kind of pushed us along.  Tenby taught us a lesson though, always pitch at the top of the site if possible, never in the bottom, even in our caravan17

The weather in the UK is, has and always will be unpredictable but abroad is not immune, I recall holidays in France 30 years ago seeing campers wringing out sleeping bags in the morning - no SIG's then!!

Our tent was ruined last year first by floodwater in the New Forest and then by high winds in Kent. Both times it was being used by friends, but our caravan last year developed a leak and became a giant sponge and went to the caravan site in the sky.

This year with our shiny new van we have been lucky with the weather but if it stays wet like this it may well put us off - we know several people who have given up after years of camping and booked for Spain and Greece because they just want a bit of sun!

This country is stunning at its best, but when faced with sheet rain it is a bit of a challenge!
