Like Lobey, my nearest reasonable sized supermarket, is a fair distance away and, unfortunately involves a ferry.  Tesco will deliver to the terminal at Craignure but often the stuff doesn't get off in time for the bus so you end up going down to get it - not exactly a saving and the delivery charges ain't cheap either.

We find that many folks just stock up in Tesco's in Oban before coming over on the ferry and rarely buy anything except milk and bread locally.  On the other hand, if folks are coming over for an event, they seem to do what I usually do and that's have a home made frozen meal - that defrosts en route - for the first night or have a take-away/ eat out. I always have rolls, cereal, bacon and fillings to make sarnies with me - and shop locally - even if I'm only on a weekender, I usually have lots of lovely different things to bring home. That's a part of my break. I'm also putting money into the local economy. But everyone's different.

Then I'm idle!!
After a 9 plus hour drive to Cornwall the last thing I want to do is go shopping anywhere - don't like it at home either and being 25 miles each way to the nearest shops have home deliveries

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

you dont have to go shopping after a 9 hour drive , just take enough food for a day or 2 , i manage a drive down to Spain every year , and i dont get food delivered when i get there ,

Yep, I'll idle too then, rather be idle than overload a van. I'm in complete agreement with Keely.

We take two dried or tinned complete meals with us to use when we cannot get to the local shops. These stay in our unit all season, only being replaced if used. Invariably they come out at the end of the season and are used up at home.

We take with us just enough for the Arrival Evening Meal and Breakfast the following morning.

Everything else is bought locally and preferably using local specialities.

Ordering an Online Shopping Order would mean that we would be ordering the same foods that we eat at home and this would rather spoil the adventure of staying in a new area.

This year we "found" Farrels in Northern Ireland. We had never tasted these before and ended up having them nearly every day!
They did nothing for my waistline but boy were they good!

I can see why some folks would want to order their foods online and I can also see why some site owners and other campers would not want Delivery Vans on their sites. So I guess this new form of shopping will be allowed on some sites but not on others. I guess those that want deliveries will have to enquire at Booking, whether they are allowed or not.

Of course it isn't lazy to have supermarket deliveries to your pitch on holiday. People do have some very odd ideas.

It is a wonderful way of having all the basics delivered and not carrying them with you on a long journey thus increasing the payload.

That does stop me enjoying local specialities, fish, fresh veg etc

I am a wheelchair user and find supermarket shopping very difficult, it is much easier having groceries delivered.

How typical of The Caravan Club to ban this instead if issuing sensible guidelines.

We will still recieve our delivery, instead of the van coming on to site it will block up the entrance!

Well done to the The Caravan Club for giving into Health & Safety rubbish.

Are they going to stop Fish & Chip Vans, and Fruit & Vegetable vans coming on site?

Oh..well done you!...it's probably that somewhat selfish approach that has got them banned in the first place...??

We have been caravanning/camping for decades and have never seen any fish & chip or fruit & veg vans on any site. In a car park outside, perhaps.

Both CC and C&CC's rules are made by the Members and while I am sure, the Wardens have an input, if this ruling was a "Health & Safety" issue, it would be a blanket ban across all caravan sites and not just one club's ruling.

The Caravan Club actually use the phrase "Health & Safety" in their article.

I have been on numerous Caravan Club sites where a van selling wither newspapers or groceries has been allowed on site. Fish & Chip vans are allowed through the barrier at many sites.

I fail to see how receiving my groceries is selfish. We have always given the delivering company our mobile telephone number, my husband has always met the driver at the gate, obtained the wardens permission to accompany the driver on to the site, and then accompanied the driver off the site. Surely a few guidelines is all that is necessary.

Well...selfish because in your previous post you said and I quote:

"We will still recieve our delivery, instead of the van coming on to site it will block up the entrance!"..

...that's why.

Anyhow, they(the CC) have tried it and there have obviously been some issues,so unless people are going to make other arrangements,I guess some are going to go hungry...

Hi Lobey

There are quite a few CC&Club sites that have Fish & chips vans on site . Some even twich a week. Usually they are to sites that are large ones that have a lot of unit on it or a big turn over bringing new onas others move onward. Have about 4-6 site mgrs on it and they get their supper. The on on-site as well as over night car park., but NOT blocking the way.One I know at Hereford is on the patch of green oppostite the toilet block. A franchise site this one is . But not all the sites that have the vans are are franchise ones. But I have yet to see a fruit & veg. one. Unless it really is way out of the way place maybe, but never seen myself just the newspaper mans van.We enjoy going out to see whats on  there locally just like you. Some smashing local fish n chip shops at Lowestoft & in Norfolk. Another at Moffat. Like you we tend to eat out locally or wherever we are out for the day.As long as they know i am in a wheelchair we have never been turned away and thoroughly enjoyed the local company part of our hols meeting the locals.like you off site.
