With all this rain and two weeks into the summer holidays, how are the state of the pitches looking down in cornwall?
Have a week's camping coming up shortly and just keeping an eye on them to see if they're anyhting like last year's pitches. Found a lot of them churned up and saturated and had to get towed out of a few campsites!
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
we have just reurned few days early from our 2 week holiday in devon. our pitch ended up as pure mud we could not even walk in tent properly as we were sinking. when we took tent down it was a mud pitch left. there is no way that pitch could possibly be used again this summer and ours was not the only pitch in that condition.
Why not instead of posting on here in the hope that somebody reads this that has just used the same site / pitch that you are visiting, just phone the campsites themselves and ask them what the pitches are like
Was at Gwithian farm overnight on Friday. It was tipping it down and I was pitched in the lower paddock area on no1 pitch. which was fine. I did walk to the top of the field that evening to make a call and I cant recall the site being at all muddy. The site is on a natural slope which forces it to drain quickly added to the fact that it has a very stoney base about 6 inches below the soil which will also aid drainage.

Unfortunately, the problems I've found in the past with ringing sites before hand to check the state of their pitches is the owners still say their pitches are all fine and dandy and when you get there you can clearly see they are not and the site is just one big mess. Can't blame them, because they know they'll lose a booking, but it's annoying when this happens, especially after a 3-4 hour drive.

We're off up to Waterside house nr, Penrith Weds. How is it looking up there????
Very wet!
We were supposed to be there now but we cancelled. I would give the owner a ring, they were quite honest with us. We drove past just to have a look (we still went over there as had a Travelodge booked for one night and couldn't get refund) and it did look quite boggy and muddy in places and everyone seemed to have wellies on! While we were in the area there was another huge downpour so don't think things will be getting any better any time soon.
Hope you manage to get your trip, we were gutted to miss out on ours.

Hi Nigel,
Thanks for that. We will be on pitch 109, is it in the middle of the site?

We went to Cornwall two weeks ago (for two weeks). Went to Lakeside at Camelford for a night first of all and they were in the process of turning us away but I said - hey we've booked and they said ok then. Pitches were fine - but they were really worried about the state of their grass. That's the opposite of what you normally come across and it's a bit off if you can't get on the site - when it was absolutely fine. I think most places will have dried out now! It was pretty muddy in Polzeath but they made everyone take their cars off the site and put them on the adjoining field which was much better. Trouble is pitches seem to dry out quick but one downpour and it's back to the mud again - so take a pair of wellies!
Hi Mark, sorry I'm not at all sure where 109 will be but it will certainly be in the main field. As I said I cant recall there being any mud on siteas I did walk to the top of the site to get a signal. The lower paddock which should be the wettest was fine so I think you should be ok.

Thank heavens we're booked onto a hardstanding pitch again at Tregarton Park but the Crocs wellies WILL be going too!
Such a shame that one of the most beautiful Counties in the country has such soggy weather......especially when we're there....apologies in advance to any poor souls going to the Mevagissey area for the last two weeks in August.....
Hope you DO manage to get a decent pitch and not toooo much of the wet stuff.
Only NINE more sleeps till Mevagissey. Whey heyyyyy
Given that it has rained heavily pretty well non stop since Saturday down here (with a brief respite on Sunday) I imagine most places in the West Country will be pretty waterlogged.
We were in Somerset the weekend before last and it rained constantly, we got off the site on the Monday but our friends had to be towed off in their camper. It's not really been dry for long since then so I imagine sites must be getting really nasty and it will need a good dry period (today was dry) to make much difference.
Remember those sites with hardstandings for tents that folks were criticising earlier in the year....
