Coming from Norfolk all our previous camping trips have been arond the Norfolk area but this year we're going a bit further a field and have booked a weeks trip in September at Beddgelert North Wales.

We have been camping for many years so have pretty much all the camping gear we need.

Any tips on what extras we may need to take with us?

Many thanks

Mandy

Welsh phrase book? They love it when we strangers have a go at speaking the lingo

Take extra clothing, we've just got back from near there. Each day had wind, rain, and sunshine. We couldn't dress properly!

There are a lot of sheep in Wales!

Enjoy your trip.

'Any tips on what extras we may need to take with us?'

Umbrellas.  Beddgelert is lovely but it has double the rainfall of Norfolk.

Which site at Beddgelert?

There are 3 in or around Beddgelert which is a great village with fantastic views.. We stayed at Cae Du site a month ago.

There is cycling near one of the sites taking you through marked forest runs run by a friendly Welsh chap and is well worth a morning or afternoon.

Snowden is about 20 minutes drive away so if it is clear you can walk to the top. If you want to go up on the railway ring and book a few weeks before or you will find it booked and you can't turn up and get on the train.

Thanks all. We are staying at the Forest Holidays site at Beddgelert, the area looks lovely and close to all we want to see and do.

Read all the reviews of the site on here and most of them seemed quite positive.

Best find up my brolly?

Enjoy the holiday, but do take good raingear as it can rain very heavily here. Reception for mobile phone and TV were very poor for me. Welsh Highland Railway now stops at the site.

Thanks for all you advice, it is much appreciated.

Cant wait to go now and see all that lovely scenery and mountains as Norfolk is hardly renowned for any hills let alone mountains!

Georget64 - you live in our town (how mad is that - I've not noticed you on here before)!!

You will need a brolly  - I think that area gets the most rainfall of anywhere in the uk.  Hey ho...Site is lovely though but dear.  Croeso i Gymru i ti hefyd.

If it rains just head west towards the Lleyn Peninsula, it has its own microclimate. you'll probably see the blue sky towards the west from Beddgelert, and its's only 20 mins to Porthmadog, Criccieth and great weather!

Castell Deudraeth is good for posh nosh if you fancy pushing the boat out a bit. Portmeirion is not to be missed. Pwllheli for some upmarket shopping, Abersoch to see the yachty types.  Aberdaron very picturesque and nice on a sunny day.

If you want to ingratiate youselves with the waiters then learn Polish! a fact of life now even in remote Wales.
