Being scottish myself I am aware of this little pest first hand. However was looking into a good repelant for first weekend trip tommorow to Glencoe.

Great idea, but I wonder why the entire west coast doesn't have a giant "5" triangle permanently glued to it ?!!

Forget your avon SSS, THIS is what you need for the Scottish Midge.

It is made from the extract of Bog Myrtle which has been used in Scotland for over 200 years to protect the inhabitants from midge bites.

As for

>>> Great idea, but I wonder why the entire west coast doesn't have a giant "5" triangle permanently glued to it ?!!   <<<

I live on the west coast of Scotland and while the midges were bad for a few days in June, we have not seen, or felt, any since.

Specifically made to combat the Highland Midge, or "Culicoides Impunctatus": and it has a reputation for being more ferocious than most.

Living in Argyll, I use this at anytime when the Midges are out looking for humans to feed on.
I have not been bitten since I started using it in early June.

PS. I have no connection to this company other than as a user of their products.

Thx for your answer...i'll try it next year when we're back to Scotland (onfortunatly we're in only once a year )
Up to now I used Shoo but it's hard to find in germany and even if it is produced in Scotland it's also hard to find it there..ordering it in an onlineshop is terrible expensive

afraid nothing works against the west highland midge. a great scottish climber once called them the saviour of the highlands as the area would be over run with tourists if not for the little devils . just hope for light wind above 3mph

Just returned from our Highland tour staying at Marragowan, Bunree and Witches Craig.

We went prepared with 10 bottles of SSS and a boot full of cintorella.  The midges only bothered us once and that was when we took a walk through the forestry at 10pm to see the Inchree falls on a warm evening.

Other than that it was happy days.  Yes there were some about but no more that the gnats we get round here in the evenings.

Wasps were a problem at witches craig.

Did not rate the site very highly myself.  Right next to a very noisy road and the pitches are a bit small and they have overdone the gravel a bit.
