We are, as I type sat on pitch no. 4 at Namparra Campsite!!  Finally managed to get the wi-fi working at last after 2 weeks of trying! We are here for another week.

The site is great, but....there are a few buts..... The weather was horrid for  few days during the first week of our hol and the entrance of the field was a total quagmire. People had to park on the track and wade through the mud to get to their pitches. I know the weather isnt anyones fault, but something could be done about the drive on, pebbles, hardcore etc. Hope it stays dry until we go cos we will NEVER be able to tow our van through the mud that was there.

Wi-fi can be a bit fickle....but thats no biggie. And the showers and loos are not coping well with the amount of people through them. The people do try and keep ontop of it, but when they shut up reception at night, theres not much they can do...it gets very messy and dirty. This isnt a problem for us as we do have our own bathroom in the van,  but alot of peeps have complained about it.

There is another site over the field and for the last fortnight, they have had entertainment in a big marquee, which is great, but the entertainment has sometimes lasted till 1am and after!! And its NOT been quiet. Our kids are older...but it has affected the families with little ones not being able to sleep.

There is now 2 fields the big one near the loos and another just for tents, but the other one is very boggy all the time, a couple of tents have had to move onto the big field as it was too wet. There are porta-loos in that field but I'm not sure if the get cleaned everyday.

There is now a washer and dryer £3.50 for a wash and £1 for 20 mins in the dryer. But be careful..there is a problem with rats that go in and out of the little huts, and they are not small, I bent down to stroke one thinking it was a cat!!! To the owners credit they have had Rentokill in a couple of times, but it has made campers who need to do there washing up in there very wary. The rats dont seem scared of humans at all!

Hope this info helps. We've had 3 summers out of Namparra and had good holidays here, but, we will be staying elsewhere next year.

I'll check this post often and if you need anymore info..just ask.

Rach

Hi Rach

Our pitch number for Saturday is 4 aswell. We have a folding camper, although we have no Toilet , so we will have to use the toilets ,which dont sound too nice. In April we booked for 2 weeks down there, but we have been having second thoughts about it.

Could you tell us whether their Dog roams around the site, as our dog is curious of other dogs. +  Is the site really busy at the moment?

If you think there is anything else we might need to know  - Please let us know.

Hope the Sun shines for you this week ; Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Thanks Amanda.

Hi Amanda

Yep, they have HUGE old english sheepdog called Zak. He is fairly friendly with peeps and seems ok with other dogs, but ours is not too keen. He does wonder about, infact last night he appeared like a ghost to snaffle our snacks while we were sat around our chiminea. Made us all jump!

The site is busy lots of kids running about and playing, our kids have played with most of them. One thing though, the other day we went out with our friends (who came for a week on pitch 3) and they came back to find one of the campsite kids sat playing in their tent. The owners kids seem to just wonder in and out of tents and awnings when they see an open flap. We didnt have this problem last year, but it has got on our nerves abit this time.

Kennack Sands beach has had some fab waves for boarding, the kids have had so much fun in the sea, and Kynance Cove has been pretty wild. Spent hours in the sea there yesterday. Do you know Cornwall at all? We've been coming down here for about 5 years now and love Cornwall with a passion!

Hope the sun stays for your hol too..no where better than Cornwall in the sun! lol

Rach

P.S. Bring your wellies, if there is rain like there was last week you will need them for the site.

Hi Rach

It has put us off even more , thinking that while were away kids will be roaming through our Camper.

We go to cornwall twice a year , for the past 15 years and we Love it                      We have been thinking about going to our good old campsite just outside Looe called 'West wayland' which we love.

Thanks Amanda .

Hi....soz if youre put off. But think its important to be honest. I'd want someone to be honest with me. Afterall, holidays are important and you want it to be the best.

We are having a day out in the next couple of days where we are just scouting for a new site.  Have seen a nice one near Porthtowan called Cambrose, but want to see if any others catch our eye.

To be really truthful, if we'd not paid all our 3 weeks pitch fee all at once upfront, I think  we would have wanted to move somewhere else. The things I've pointed out have really become a bit of a bug bear.  We are worried that if it rains again in the couple of days before we are due to leave, that we wont manage to get the van through the mud at the entrance to the field. It really was very, very bad. Like I said the weather isnt anyones fault, but by putting down stones or something it could make all the difference. I got the pitch no wrong, we are on no 3 not 4, our friends were on 4, and the other day a campervan came on and slid in the mud and was sliding very fast towards the side of our van, everone was just stood open mouthed waiting for it to hit us. But the driver slid onto some grass and managed to stop, it was a close one!

And I know the owners kids are just being kids, but they are literally left to their own devices and let to wonder onto anyones pitch and into anyones awning or tent. Last night we had to tell them 4 times to move on so we could have our tea outside in peace. They were hanging over our windbreak. Weve asked the owners to have a word, but  think its gone by the by.  We had a bbq last week and they came over a few times and asked if they could have some food cos they were hungry and their mum and dad had gone to the pub!  All the kids seem to be sleeping in an old van by the loos.

Next year we will be having our 3 weeks somewhere else. Its a very relaxed site, and sometimes I think it way too relaxed.

Where ever you go, I hope you have a really good hol and I hope th weather holds for you.

Rach

That was the UK campsite meet- we paid £15 a night at Chy Carne. We were there from 25/7 - 2/8 and the noise usually finished by 11am-  we were a lot closer than I expect you were and it didn't cause us that much of a problem. All very clean, and definitely no rats!! I can recommend Chy Carne- wouldn't stay anywhere if there are rats.

''We had a bbq last week and they came over a few times and asked if they could have some food cos they were hungry and their mum and dad had gone to the pub!'' How old are these children?  This could be a case of quite serious child neglect if this is going on for the season.

I was at Chy Carne the site next door as well on the UKCS rally for the last 2 weeks.  The entertainment was finishe by 11.30 at the latest. I have 2 kids 8 and 10. We sloped off to bed before the entertainment finished some nights and had no problems with the noise. I was 4 or 5 pitches away from the marquee!

Chy Carne was lovely!  The site owners worked very hard to keep the mud under control after the appalling amount of rain we had. I would highly recommend Chy Carne, it is literally next door to Namparra and a little closer to the beach!  I intend to go to the site again when I can. I may take my parents down soon if things work out!

We were hosting the ukcs meet at Chy Carne, and the entertainment was always finished by 11.30 pm each night, to comply with the entertainment licence.

Whilst we were at Chy Carne a number of people came over who should have been booked at Namparra, but on arrival refused to stay due to the poor facilities offered. One family that arrived at 10am to pitch were greeted by a small child (the owners) when the family said that they were not staying and wanted to see the owners he wondered off, then returned saying that they were still in bed with hang overs and wouldnt come to speak to them, they asked for a refund, the child wondered off again, then returned with a envelope containing the pitch fees. ?????????? what a way to run a site

We did have a drive around, and from what we saw its not the type of site that we would have stayed on, very very muddy, very poor toilets/showers etc,

I would look for another site in the area im afraid, must say that Chy Carne opposite is a super site, and the owners Brian and Sue are very friendly.

We have also been on the UKCS meet for the last fortnight at Chy Carne, I can also ditto what the others have already said that the entertainment finished by 11.30pm and NOT 1am as mentioned previously. We were also pitched not far from the marqee and on the nights we decided to stay at our unit we were not bothered by the noise at all.  I think that this is a case of sour grapes to be perfectly honest.

I would not go to Nampara even if you paid me to, from what I saw from a distance it was very underbooked (need I say more), and from hearing/reading reports of others the facilities were VERY basic.

I would totally recommend Chy Carne, the owners Brian and Sue are lovely and very helpful, as are the other members of staff there. Nothing is too much trouble.

We are going back next year, it was one of  the best campsites we have ever stayed on.

I can whole heartedly agree with the poor reports of Namparra. I have never wanted my hol to end as much!

But, the noise from the marquee DID go on sometimes till way, way after to time it was supposed to stop. We went to Lands End one Thursday night and got back around 12 oclock (traffic and had to stop at Tesco) and the noise went on till nearly one am. I'll give you that it wasnt the "entertainment" it was a large group of people shouting and yelling. Several people complained to the site and to the noise people at the local council. And we've been given forms to log the noise complaints. So its NOT a case of sour grapes. The noise went on for several nights, not every night, but every other night. Like I said, my kids are older, 8, 12, 13, 17 and the noise didnt bother them at all, but the other campers in tents with little ones were very much disturbed.

Sorry if this post has ruffled a few feathers, but trying to be objective. Was asked for an opinion and gave it as honestly as I could.

Silver sands is at Kennack Sands too, their toilets are clean, i've never seen a rat there (although plenty of bats!) and they don't have entertainment.

We've been going there for years and love it, private pitches, gravelled drive, it's lovely

Hope you find somewhere

I hate rats, we've had them a couple of times in the shed at home. So, I know rats are everywhere but .... if I saw any in a dishwashing or other building on a campsite I think I'd just have to pack up and leave.
