We've just returned from a enjoyable weekend in the lakes (great weather). Already planning another trip back.

We stayed at Park Foot Ullswater this weekend. Nice location, but the site wasnt exactly what we're after. It was very very busy, but we got a good pitch on the terraces behind the reception area. Recommend those pitches to anyone!

We're a family of 5, 3 younger kids so dont want a club, bar on site. Kids park would be advantage but not essential. Just after something a bit less 'commerical' than Park foot. However not stuck away in some field halfway up a mountain.

Shop / village nearby would be advantage with some walks the kids could do.

Is there anywhere like this in the Lakes? I've looked throught the site directory on here, but still looking for the site meeting these requirements.

Preferably no further south than windemere either as we are travelling from north.

If you liked the location of parkfoot how about trying Waterside house next door which we have always preferred, showers, toilets , small shop for essentials and play area plus it is right at the side of ullswater.

Also try looking at Skyeside round the lake near Patterdale, smaller site, perfectly flat pitches all with stunning views no play area, the site does have the brotherswater inn and a camping barn near by but you dont get any problems with drunks as most folk are there to walk, cycle or enjoy camping as a family.

we would recommend this site, short 2 min walk into the local Town of Hawkeshead, but other easy walks around as well - routes available from reception.

We also did not like Parkfoot to busy, to commercial and the fact that there was also when we were there, gangs of kids hanging around the play area drinking, smoking and swearing with not a parent in sight was not our idea of family camping. Its our one and only time on a site with a club and never again.

Have a look at Castlerigg Hall oevrlooking Derwentwater and Keswick, lovely site and well worth a visit.
