Hi guys, I wonder if you have any ideas for us, we're looking to return to wales next week as our trip to black rock was cut short this week due to heavy wind and rain
We really wanted to visit Barmouth but didn't get to, As we're off work again next week we're hoping to return but didn't want to go in as far as black rock.
We looking for somewhere to stay that is in wales but isn't too far from birmingham and that isn't too far to go into Barmouth for the day
Also if there are any other areas that are of interest or anything you could reccommend then that'd be great too!
Any ideas??

Why Barmouth? Its a bit like Bilston on a rainy day...Most of the shops are boarded up and the place has a general run down look about it. There are a fair few ASBO types wandering the town too.
Me and wifey took our 18 month old twin grandkids there a few weeks ago, as normal the tide was out so it was a half mile hike to the sea for a paddle...Don't get me wrong we used to love the place, but its gone so downhill in recent years I doubt we'll go there again.

No idea where Barmouth is but we have just had as wonderful week here

2 miles to the nearest beach and loads more within a few miles - we spent just about the whole week on the beach.

Yes, check out Shell Islands official and unofficial websites. Also south of Barmouth is a site at Fairbourne not listed by UKCampsite, C&CC, or anyone else as far as I know. Its located on Beach Road about 1/4 mile from the sea, on the right just before the level crossing and station. Adequate, fairly basic facilities near shops (news, PO, fish & chips etc.) and the Fairbourne Railway, which takes you to the Barmouth Ferry for your day out! Or you could use the mainline (Arriva) train or if energetic walk across the viaduct (nominal toll) and avoid the lengthy drive around the estuary. Barmouth site Hendre Mynach seeems to have become rather expensive in recent years.

Have you thought about somewhere round Bala lake? A short drive over the mountains to Barmouth. Personally, one of my favourite places in the whole world is Lyn Gwynant, not much in the way of facilities but a fantastic spot.

Stayed at Hendre Mynach earlier this year - great site - clean toilets, plenty of free hot water and very friendly folk.
Lovely walk along the beach/prom into Barmouth town - takes approx 15/20 mins strolling.
Sure a few of the shops are boarded up, but the atmosphere is so welcoming and plenty of places to have a drink and eat out.
You can also catch the train to Pwllheli or Aberystwyth, or bus to Dolgellau for a day out.

I've heard the town has gone down hill big time... But which town hasn't in recent years?! I just want to go back to that beautiful beach that I remember from when I was a kid
I think it will have to be next year now... I don't fancy camping so close to the coast in October!
