Hi all, we are going to Dumfries and Galloway tomorrow for a 9-day camping (14-23 August), the only holiday we could have as a family this year. Unfortunately according to the weather forecast, it's going to be raining during most of the days we will be there. We have 2 children, aged 8 and 11 (one of whom is recovering from appendicectomy 3 weeks ago.) I am not sure whether it will be a good idea to push through with the plan and hope that the weather forecast is wrong or look for an alternative campsite where the forecast is not as bad. What would you do if were in my shoes? Do you have any suggestions for the alternative campsite with a better forecast, preferrably within 2 or 3 hours drive from Newcastle. Your opinions/suggestions will be highly appreciated. Thanks

Have not long returned from 2 weeks in Scotland. In the Highlands we found that the weather did not stay the same for very long. On the days rain was forecast it did not rain all day. We had 2 or 3 seasons in an afternoon one day.
Just go - it won't do what the forecast says so .....
Enjoy it whatever it does - the chldren won't be bothered by a bit of rain. Take wellies and waterproofs and you'll be fine.
Where in D&G are you going? It does tend to have it's own micro climate out there.
I've been in September and in October and apart from the odd shower(a couple of heavy ones) it's been really good weather.
It has forecast heavy showers for the week here where I live and it hasn't rained since early Monday morning
If you can't see the hills it is raining. If you can see the hills then it is about to rain.
Honestly, in the UK there are 7 possible weather patterns and figuring out which one is going to bring whatever weather is around us, across us is a weather forecasters crystal ball.
Ever since the Michael Fish cock up of the big wind, all our forecasts have been "worst case" scenarios.
So pack your wellies and your sou'westers but take some sun tan lotion just in case!!!!

We were camping at Nydie Campsite, near St Andrews, last week. Weather was spectacular - we were swimming in the sea! Unfortunately it's unpredictable. The East Coast tends to be drier. Choose a site with an indoor games room or town nearby for plenty of wet day activities just in case. The southern coastline of D&G should be better than inland (?) By the way the scottish schools are back next week so sites should be quieter.
Where in D&G are you going i stay in Dumfries so can help you out with stuff we do have rain just now but forcast for last week was rain every day and only rained today we do have a lot of hills around us so weather can change easily and forcast is rarely right well it better not be as i plan on golfing this week lol.
Feel free to ask any questions and i will give you loads of idea's for rainy days that wont cost the earth.
What about seeing if you can get in at a site with an indoor pool .... the Brighouse Bay Kirkudbright site has and is in one of the most beautiful parts of D&G. It would keep the kids happy if it was torrential and if not you could get out and explore!
I can second that site - we had a great stay last October and the girls enjoyed the pool. The bay is great and there is a really good children's playground on site. Showers and facilities are plenty and good too.
Plenty to see and do around and about. The Gem and Rock museum is a must (well for us it was)
