1st time camper looking for a bit of reassurance. Having read the reviews on here for LeisureLakes in Southport I'm feeling really nervous for our 1st family camping trip. I wanted somewhere fairly close and with things to do for our twin boys who are 14 so place looked ideal but now not so sure. I know I'm being stupid but am worried about security. Keep getting visions of hording mobs attacking the tent with mallets in the middle of the night (Have to stop watching Amercian Crime shows, lol).
Has anyone been, or heard other reviews of the site? or someone telling me not to be so bloody daft would be much appreciated at the moment.
Many thanks a nervous 1st timer

Hi,
We have not stayed on this one but visited the site last year and were not impressed.
You said you wanted to go to somewhere fairly near. Where abouts do you live?
If it is near Southport then there are some great sites nearby, Abbey Farm at Burscough for one.

Were between Skipton and Burnley. Going Wed to Sat next week. Husband and Kids have camped before but this is my first time, 1st family size tent. Was really looking for something to please the kids i,e fishing, other kids there age to mess about with, that sort of thing. I'll deffo have a look at the site you metioned thanks. Really unsure what to do now, decisions descisions, lol
I would give leisure lakes a wide berth it may put you off camping for life, the reviews tell a story,i would recommend Abbey Farm at Ormskirk as mentioned, there is a small fishing pond for kids and also a very large play field for the kids to play on away from caravans and tents,we visit regular with 2 kids who love the site,
hope this helps you
cheers

cheers guys, have just booked Abbey Farm. I really didn't feel comfortable about Leisure Lakes but Abbey Farm looks lovely and only about an hour from home so ideal for a camping virgin. I feel really excited now, although it would be just my luck to get snow next week, lol
