Birchwood Farm is cheap and cheerful and does what it says on the tin. We were there last week and had a lovely time. Bit sloping unless you're on EHU but masses of space for non-EHU. You could pitch a monster there and it'd get lost. Veyr handy for Matlock, Crich, Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Dovedale, Carsington......list is endless. The Tramway museum has an offer on at mo for 2 adults and up to 3 kids £29.50 all in and free returns for a year if that's your bag. We had a fab day there and as we only live a short drive away we'll use the annual ticket quite a bit.
------------- If you have a problem stressing you, sort it. If you can't, there's no point worrying about it coz it won't make a blind bit of difference!!!! Jules

We like Birchwood. There is a wood alongside of the campsite and we saw youngsters playing in there, making dens, playing hide & seek, which took us back to our youth. There are some lovely walks, down through the woods, along Cromford canal to Cromford Village and then to Arkrights Mill with it's coffee shop & craft shops. There are mixed reviews, but we didn't have any problems (each to their own).
Hi! We have just come back from a weekend away at the Knockerdown Inn near Carsington Water, Ashbourne.
What a fabulous site for toddlers! There's a really good play area, animals to see (ostiches, donkeys, goats, hens etc.) and a 10 min walk to Carsington Water itself. Ashbourne and Matlock are only a short drive away.
There's no hook-ups or showers at this site but the toilets are adequate for a weekend away and the washing up facilties are great. The pub serves good food if you don't want to cook.
I'm about to write a review later.....I would definitely recommend this site to a family with younger children.
We had a week in Rivendale which we enjoyed greatley. There is the Tissington Trail just outside the site which is fab for walks or cycle rides, great views along this path.
