Any help on this would be GREAT !

Right folks , we have bought the tent and just need some more essentials and we'll be ready to try our first night or two camping as a family...two adults (some would disagree) two great kids  ...10 yrs and 6yrs and our 14 year old spaniel Jake

Could any members tell us of some good sites you have tried that have EHU and descent /clean facilities, we have a fairly large tent ( Kalihari 8 ) so would like a place that has large pitches and i know some places don't like or allow bigger tents...or so i am told.

Would  like to try somewhere in Scotland maybe Perthshire area for the first time but would also be interested in  Berwick Upon Tweed(a favourite place of ours) or surrounding area.

Hope some of you have some idea's on this one and we might get to try out our tent before the season  ends and would like to make a good choice so the family want to do it again

We were in a similar position a few weeks ago. Minus the kids (mine is grown up now)

I had just bought the new outfit and started looking around like you are now.

Sadly I live in the Midlands so Scotland is a bit far for my first trip, so I have no pearls of wisdom for you in that respect.  However, we found a cracking little site near Hay on Wye in Herefordshire, no use to you I know but just thought I'd share that with you.

Take a look on the campsite reviews on here or you could try the Camping and caravan club site, also are you with the National Trust? They have a few cracking sites if you like quiet??

Good luck and I look forward to hearing how you got on, I fancy a trip to Scotland so I'll be looking for your advice 17

We were in exactly the same position last month but we visited wales - aberystwyth holiday village, very good facilities for kids and dogs and EHU etc.
But in the past i have spent a lot of time in scotland and the area of pitlochary is really nice, not sure of a campsite but lots of things to do and see there.

I think Pitlochary area will be be our first starting place as i know the area a bit and it's only two hours from me , it would be a good place to start and learn some things before camping further away.

Hi Tommy

Some good Scottish sites to try are Keltie Bridge in Callander, quiet and cheap with good dog walks, North Ledaig near Oban, CC site and very good facilities and lovely views, Yellowcraig CC site near North Berwick, very quiet location and a beach nearby, Scaucope Links in Crail is right on the sea front but a bit expensive.

Hope this helps

Davy

Great stuff Davy, a good few there to choose from mate , i really can't wait to get out somewhere to try the tent out .......and best of all the whole family are excited about it , there is a site called Crosslaw near Berwick direction have you ever heard anyone talking about that one.

Do I need to be a memberof the Camping&Caravan Club to get on there sites and do most campers join this club

You are right to be aware of the size of your tent. There is a permanent thread on the forum about sites that accept large tents here so have a look through to see if any sites are near you. Failing that, ring the sites you are interested in and ask what size they can take on their EHU pitches; make sure you know the dimensions of your tent when you do so, so that you have accurate info to hand and remember to add at least 6ft  to allow for guying out.

You may want to make your first trip even closer to home than a 2 hour journey, and I would certainly recommend that you have the tent up at least once if not twice before you go away with it, so that you can a) check that it is all there in working order and b) get a bit of practice in.

Just need to add that this is a great forum with very helpful people on it.......thanks all

Definately do a practice-pitch... this way you can find out if your tent is a pain in the arse to set-up, and iron out any problems before you get to the campsite. We did a set-up in a quiet local park.
