I'd be careful if I was you.  We stopped at Woodlands - it was OK but to be honest at the height of the summer I wouldn't recommend it unless you can cope with being only a few feet from the next tent with hundreds of often hyped up children running all over the place until late at night. We had all of our tent guy ropes ripped out one day and a wind break snapped in two by the children of fellow campers - not the type of people you'd want to find yourself camping next to. The main shower block is fine but the smaller blocks further out were hopeless on our visit and totally inadequate taking in to account of the number of visitors on site. When we complained we got the helpful response of - what else do you expect? Running water would have been a good start.

I'd strongly recommend Woodlands as a theme park for younger children for a day out but would recommend stopping at a different camp site - I'd recommend checking out Whitehill Park - also very busy but much more room and much better organised and within driving distance of Woodlands.  Woodlands out of season I'd possibly consider but not during July/August - total chaos.

We stayed at  Kenford International for a week and it's a fabulous site. It's mainly residential statics with nice grass pitches for tents and tourers. It's just off the end of the M5 and close to Exeter, Dawlish, Teignmouth, Exmouth ec. etc. It has a nice little clubhouse on site, immaculate free showers, ehus and the best bit.... No raving nutters marauding all over the place ! Ok the motorway can be heard but after a day or two we didn't notice it. I can't praise the place enough, it's beatifully kept, quiet, close to loads of attractions and we'll definitely be going again. One day as we were going out a tipper was delivering a laod of tar, by the time we came back, the whole carpark had been resurfaced. There is swipekey entry to the site too, you flash a card at the barrier and it lets you into the camping area from the carpark, so nobody that's not staying there can get in with a vehicle !! We have a Khyam XXL (6m wide and 3m deep) which we pitched sideways with the 3m x 3m annexe out the front and had loads of room with no shenanigans with complaints or extra charges for the size of our rig. We had pitch 105, right in the corner of the site next to the special area where people walked their dogs and enjoyed chatting to the folks and their dogs, as they walked past. Next time we will request pitch 123, which is closer to the shower block. Kennford International, it's a great place.

Try Dornafield - an excellent site, but I suspect you will need to book very early.

Have a look at river dart country park camp site.  Ok, there's not as much going on as there is at woodlands but it's a lovely place and there's plenty going on in the woods for the kids plus a sort of fun pool which is part of the river that has been dammed off.  Our 3 year old loves it and it's not too far from woodlands if you fancy going there for the day.

I agree with all the above, we had a lovely time at woodlands campsite out of season but school holidays- nightmare- you can reach out and touch the next tent. When arriving we had the choice of a small gap between 2 other tents or a severely sloping pitch. They know how to pack you in. There are some terraced areas with pitches marked out but theres still hoardes of people so if you get the chance go out of school hols/midweek.

I agree with the others, your kiddies are quite young so probably a quieter site to stay on would suit you better and maybe visit woodlands for a day out.

Your children would love Pennywell Farm (idea for a day out) down at Buckfastleigh, so staying on the suggested sites Dornafield or Parkers farm would give you the ideal base to explore most of that area in Devon.

We are off to Smytham Manor tomorrow!

Went there to a static caravan 10 years ago! Loved it!!

Tenting this time around.

Right next to the tarka Trail, so we'll be taking the bikes!

Can't wait!
