Just tried to get booked into Flower of may campsite and they had space for the bank holiday weekend, then she asked the size of tent "Idaho XL" and was informed that it was too large 6mts is there max ! Good job i did not tell her i have the front extension too ! oh well .......keep looking, do a lot of sites have a max size ? its not stripped with "Billy Smarts Circus " on the side just a family tent ..
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Accepting that there is no such thing as a standard pitch and therefore no such thing as a standard sized tent...
The sensible approach is to keep to a tent that is less than 5m wide. Length is less of a problem up to around 7 or 8 metres on most sites. The idea of sticking with this width is that it allows for a 10 or 11 metre wide pitch and then leaving 3 metres each side for a firebreak.
Your Idaho shares the multipodded dome problem that it is long in both directions and that is always likely to cause you problems on some sites.
You will find sites that take you and you will find sites that your tent is too big for, so you'll need to have a look around, especially if you want an EHU pitch.
Choose a site which has a Rally field and ask top pitch in there instead of a standard pitch. We are off to Stourport for the bank holiday weekend, 4 families, 16 people total with 4 tents that are around/over 8m x 8m footprint, i asked to go in the rally field as they are big tents and so many people will be there.
