Hi, we're new to caravanning having only bought our 1st van 3 weeks ago, we have so far been to Scarborough but the site was really noisy and we like the peace and quiet but this little trip was just a trial run. we are looking for a site in the lakes pref Keswick area does anyone know of any good sites which are reasonably peaceful, allow dogs and have sinks, loos etc, not forgetting ofcourse the dreadful weather at the moment with more rain forecast.

Park Coppice CC site at Coniston has vacancies for each of the next three weekends and vacancies thoughout the week as well. You can guarantee peaceful, dog friendly, nice clean and loos and showers with plentiful hot water and it is not too far from Windermere.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

There's a nice site in Keswick itself, though I haven't used it for a few years. I've also used a very pleasant site by the southern end of Windermere. (Forestry commission I think).

Just come back from skellwith fold,Ambelside, very big site but quiet, great for dogs as its surrounded by woods ..in fact if you get pitch 70 or 53 Loughrigg perfect for a quick wee before lights out ( the dog not you!!) Very clean tiolets great dog/bike/wellie wash ,the driveway is a mile long so so really are in the middle of nowhere.Only downfall is theres no grass its all limestone hardstanding (rockpegs needed), but after the weekend of rain we've just had its a plus not a downfall everything came back clean and not muddy.(p****d wet though).

We have had 10 days at the Keswick Camping and Caravanning Club site earlier this month. It was the day after the site had flooded and made national news. I would still recommend the site but would make sure you book hard standing, some of the grass pitches were very boggy due to the amount of rain. There is a dog walk on site and virtually all pubs in Keswick are dog friendly. The site is about a 5 minute walk into town and there also plenty of fantastic walks around the area.

Park Foot at Pooley Bridge was always one of favourites.

Right on the shore of Lake Ullswater, but has got a little expensive over the last few years.

Windemere Camping & Caravan Club is a very nice site. No flooding issues for vans (although one of the tent fields suffers if its bad) and its between Keswick and Windemere with Staveleigh (sp) just down the road with a bakery and a nice pub.

Nice spacy pitches, very clean with plenty of toilets/showers, shop, kids play area, family room and bar which also serves food. It one of the c & ccs largest sites and also has statics/lodges hence the extra facilities to usual c&cc sites. A friend of mine recently part exed his caravan in for one of their lodges. He loves the Lakes and this site. He likes the location for getting out and about. Plus (and I have to agree) its a lovely site.

We spent nine nights there last year (August) and it rained every day but one! We've avoided the lakes since in favour of the east coast and coincidentally fallen lucky with the weather since. Daren't go back now! 17

We can recommend Skelwith Fold as well, we woke up every morning look at the deer grazing away, lovely site and good for the dogs.

Lanefoot foot farm just outside of Keswick is lovely. Dog friendly pub in walking distance, Keswick a short drive.

Sorry yes - Kendal not Keswick. Got my K's mixed up and misspelt Staveley. I'll go have a quiet word with myself! 17

Have also stayed at Skelwith Fold. Very nice site.

My friend has just returned from a few days at Windemere c & cc and he said whilst he dodged a lot of the rain when it did come down it was heavy and given the already wet terrain lots of areas on site and out and about were flooded. (He fell walks and fell runs). Wellies and waterproofs required!

Try Castlerigg Hall. The facilities are as good as I've come across and I don't think there is any problem with having a dog but best to check. We went the last two years and it's a lovely site, not to be confused with Castlerigg Farm across the road.
