can anyone recommend a good campsite at the northern end of the new forest (Southampton / Cadnam / Ashurst sort of area) which would meet our admittedly picky requirements:

two adjoining pitches
accommodating two large tents (a bear lake 4 and a 6)
preferably able to pitch facing each other (rather than side by side)
willing to have an additional car with one adult and one toddler staying one of the two nights (prepared to pay a reasonable supplement for this)
clean bathrooms, hot showers

free wi-fi or a good mobile signal would be useful but not essential.

my friend tried calling a site today and for the first time got told they couldn't / wouldn't guarantee adjacent pitches. not sure if that's unusual or unlucky.

thanks in advance.

We went to Greenhill Farm Caravan and Camping Park in Landford. On North Eastern edge of New Forest with access to open forest. There were several large tents together, looked like a big family or friends. There are adult only, general campers, and family pitches which are not marked out, unless in caravan or EHU.

There is onsite fishing (rod licence required)

The toilets and showers we found to be clean and adequate but are in old portacabins. The new owners took over in January and are gradually upgrading facilities. It used to be quite run down and adults only. We found them to be friendly and helpful

Use the site search facility and make a list of possibles in you chosen area. Should manage it now the rush is over, then get on the phone, some you'll find more helpful than others, but if they are not full they need your business so should be accomodating. I booked 3 adjoining pitches earlier in the year at Freshwater in Dorset, found the staff very helpful and we had a caravan, a tent and a trailer tent...Mick
