they are good for the kids and to be honest is the only reason i would go, that and if its a cheap deal woldn't pay the prices they want in summer school hols. Weymouth sites are nice as is Devon cliffs, only annoying thing is the amount of arcade machines and the normal placement for these is so that you have to walk through them to get to the restaraunts/bar etc.

Hi guys. To the snobs on here.....live a little. I dont like the idea of a Haven/ pontins/butlins type place after seeing redcoats but i would def consider it to give my son a holiday for him. How many times do we as parents book holidays with the kids in mind but its mainly for us? Why not let them have a holiday too.

To all the people that do like them, we were looking for one open for new year but cant find any open. Where do you find the details about pitches? All I could find on the web sites are details for static/bungalows/rooms? We live in kent so thorpe park or somewhere in the south would be great.

At least im willing to give it a try, as they say you cant judge til you've tried it yourself!!!!!!!

A couple of years ago we managed to get a whole weeks camping at Reighton Sands for £11! it was such a good offer we lent one of our tents to our son and daughter-in-law who came along too for another £11 - we simply used it as a base and didnt really use any of the facilities but you couldnt beat that for a bargain holiday.

Cherl889,

The Haven touring site is here. There is a link on the main Haven site, but it can be easily missed.

We have tried several of the Haven sites and overall found the standard of cleanliness and services etc to be very high. The shows vary from site to site and have varied from the downright dodgy to the very good.

Whilst in Devon this year, we took a look at Devon Cliffs (The clue is in the name!) which is their only or perhaps one of only two 5* sites. A little disappointed with the location of the touring area, room for perhaps 30 units? Quite a tight area especially if you have a large twin-axle. The rest of the site did look very nice though.

We're trying Kessingland in Norfolk for half-term. Paid more for our week than some of you paid for the whole month 17 You lucky B*ggers!

Just back from Seaview in Weymouth which we loved and also Portmadog in Wales, good site too.  We have been to a lot of Haven sites and have never had a problem with any of them.

Oh and we are 50 plus and dont have kids with us but we enjoy the facilities on offer.

Taking grandson to Seton Sands next week. Using my 3 free nights from Freedom Trail £3 for electric hook up plus other two nights booked with my freedom trail cheques.  £17 for 5 nights and that is passes included.

We stayed at Seaview in Weymouth in a static at the start of June, in that heatwave (it was fab!) and I was really impressed by the touring area. And now I've seen the prices out of season I'm definitely going there rather than Sun Holidaying it!!

That weekend in Weymouth cost £102 for all 6 of us and we had to convert the sofa to a bed every night which was blooming annoying. The other weekend there were similar weekend breaks coming up for that site for £30!!!

Yes there's the hassle of erecting and packing up the tent, and carting your own cooker etc, but at least you know your bed can be set up and doesn't need to be converted back into a sofa by daytime!!

I live really close to Burnham on Sea so am going to look out for deals for next season as soon as they are published, could people please shout when booking starts to open for then please?

Thorpe Park and Haggerston Castle. We love them both. Berwick is a lovely site as well but they don't take tourers so we have to go in a static if we go there

Perran Sands has been a favourite of mine since I was a teenager (so much so we spent our honeymoon there!) - the location is just wonderful!

I also liked Thorpe Park (Cleethorpes) due to its size and location to the beach and Wild Duck at Belton is a lovely woodland location.  Went to both these in 2008.

Hated Golden Sands at Mablethorpe (went there in 2003) and would never return there again.  The place was dirty, disgusting and the staff were rude, lazy and obnoxious.

Haven sites are great if you want a weekend of cheesy entertainment and socialising and if you look off-peak can get some great deals.

I have been to a few Haven sites over the years. They are great if you have kids that need to be entertained.

I have usually stayed in statics and have generally found them to be row upon row of caravans, with only a view of other caravans.

Now my kids have grown up I prefer somewhere a bit quieter and with more charm.

My own favorite is Havan-y-Mor. A big site with lots going on for the kids. It is also big enough for you get away from the facilities if you wish and you can get a sea view.
