Hi All, we are new to this site (after lurking for a while), and new to camping. Just puchased a Hartford XL (thanks to the very nice man at Yeomans !).  Can't believe how great this site is ... so much to take in, and so much good advice.  The problem now is that I want to start booking some sites for next year (how excited !). Whilst I know the world is my oyster, and there is a really good directory on this site, I would love some suggestions for good camp sites. There will be me and my OH , plus two teenagers, so don't necessarily need childrens facilities.  But would probably like EHU, and enjoy walking.  We live in Cheshire, but would love to maybe go 'down south '  Just don't know where to start... any suggestions would be welcomed !

We no longer take the teenagers (wonderful) as youngest is now 18, when they did come with us the best holidays I recall are at Trewan Hall, near Newquay, Cornwall and Hillhead, Brixham, Devon.  These are a C&CC site and a CC site, and both have a swimming pool.  The couple of others we really enjoyed were to Southerness, near Dumfries,Scotland, the boys went to all the mountain bike tracks in the area,(and want to go again) we went walking, the site was a Parkdean site with entertainment, and a swimming pool, and another was near Harlech, and again the boys went mountain biking, and we did our own thing

We have been to some Haven sites, but to be honest found the smaller ones with just a few facilities much more to our liking.

Nearer home Ebury Hill, but this has no facilities, the boys fished all day, and we just relexed in the wonderful suroundings.

I think you need to decide what you want and then try to find it - is price important/where down south/how far/coast/country/want entertainment/clubhouse/decent ablutions/just a field etc. They are all out there.

Personally I would never consider a Haven. Nothing wrong with em just not what we would enjoy

Consider "..down south.." to Isle of Wight.

Loads of festivals and attractions, tends to be less crowded than mainland. Camp sites generally high standard and reasonably priced, obviously ferry cost is an additional consideration. Red Funnel is usually cheapest and does combined ferry/campsite packages.

Thanks for the suggestions above, will check them out.   We are not really bothered about entertainment on site, but would like good shower / toilet facilities.  And not so sure we are Haven type poeople either ! Am loving this site  - so much advice by nice people.

Are you members of either the CC or the C&CC? as both of these have good shower/toilet facilities, and EHU. They do have some sites without facilities as well, so make sure you check first.  If you are a member of the C&CC you can get reduced prices at Forest Holidays, and I have found these to be good as well.

Why just 'down south'
There are some spectacular sights 'up north' too.
