Looking to book next years summer holiday and was considering Gloucestershire but as we've never been there thought I'd try and find out about the county first. Would love to hear from you regarding Gloucestershire, places to visit, scenery (terrain - unsure if hilly or flat) etc etc.
Also can anyone recommend a good Touring Caravan site?
Look forward to hearing your views.
Many thanks

Not sure where Hereford ends and Gloucester begins but the area around Ross on Wye, Symonds Yat and the Forest of Dean is an area of outstanding natural beauty. Loads of walks, river sports etc.
------------- Good friends are hard to find, difficult to leave and impossible to forget.
If you want a really nice site try Townsend in Pembridge, just outside Leominster. I know it's Herefordshire, but it a really nice site - reception also has it's own butchery - excellent for BBQ meat. Really worth a visit. We were there over the August B.H. Pitches are not marked but very large indeed.
Have a look at Whitemead Forest Park in the Forest of Dean, it has an indoor swimming pool steam room, restaurant, club house which has entertainment every evening in school holidays and every weekend throughout the year. It is a very nice site we have been there loads of times and are going again for new year.
It is about 22 miles from Gloucester town centre, a visit to the cathedral and Gloucester Docks is worth it. The Forest of Dean has spectacular scenery it is quite hilly.

We used this one near Slmbridge, http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=3137. Its a lovely sie next to the canal and Slimbridge Wildlife Centre is close by. The only downside to this site was the toilet block but a new one has opened although we haven't used it since. Have a look at the website and it gives some attractions to visit in the area.

Does it have plenty of sheltered pitches? I am booked there for this weekend but the weather is looking a bit wet and windy
I stayed at Blackmore C&CC site in May this year Brilliant site very handy for Gloucestershire/Worcestershire/Herefordshire Had to meet a friend at Monmouth (on the edge of the Forest of Dean) Took me less than an hour Gloucester is 20 mins away then Park & Ride You have Worcester to the north Hereford to the west Plenty to do in the area
The Tudor caravan park is well sheltered and the Tudor arms is nice for food
You've obviously never been there in a gale, Kenles. Winds screaming across the site, tent lying flat at times...but always popped up again and not a wire peg out of place .
Pub at the entrance nice but expensive, but across the road and on the side of the canal was the Black Shed cafe and bar, a bit like a transport cafe but excellent food at a cheaper price and drinks cheaper too...guess where I wined and dined all weekend.
