Not sure if I am posting this in the right place.
Am just about to book the ferry, for our holiday to Devon at the end of June next Year.
We will be sailing from Dublin to Holyhead.
I have just discovered that the day we will be traveling on the M6/M5, will be the Wednesday,at the start of Glastonbury.
Does anyone know what the traffic will be like at this time?
Had originally planned to get the 08.00 sailing on Wednesday, which would mean us arriving in Holyhead at 11am.
The alternative is to get the 20.55 sailing on Tuesday and travel overnight.
We cant leave any earlier than Tuesday night and cant stop overnight on the way there, as we must be in Devon on the Wednesday, the earlier the better.
Any suggestions?

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Of the ten years that we've been going to Glastonbury we've never had any delays on the M5 itself.
....although last year it was pretty bad,as I think that there were a couple of accidents (around the Bristol stretch I think..which is bad enough anyway!)..
luckily we missed it as we were already down there the night before.
If travelling tues night is "doable" I'd personally opt for that just to make sure..
Thanks,
Thought that might be the best solution.
Unfortunately the night time sailing is quite a bit more expensive, which is why we were trying to avoid it, but needs must.
We have to take our kids out of school, so are trying to minimize that as much as possible.
The traffic gets heavy when you get off the M5 around J23 not really before. Also although a lot of people arrive on the Wednesday the traffic gets worse on the Thursday/Friday. We often get people staying on park on the Tuesday night so that they can be at the gates for 8am on the Wednesday when it opens, but locally everyone avoids Street/Glastonbury area from the Thursday to Sunday unless you are going to the Festival.

There is a trick to it....once you pass Sedgemoor Services get in to the outside lane, the two nearside lanes get clogged but the outside flows freely.
I wouldnt panic though, i doubt it will affect you at that time - Bristol is far more of a problem!!
Don't think you will have a problem on the M5 on Wednesday. There will be more traffic but manageable. You need to get quite close to Pilton before it becomes a real problem.

Closer to the time it may be worth checking just which motorway sections will be have roadworks!...it seems a though most our motorway mileage this year has been through narrow laned/50mph speed limit sections!?!.. (..combine these with people slowing down to "rubber neck" at an incident on the opposite carriageway and it makes for slow progress!... )
Having said that,if you travelling down south there's not a great deal of options..
