I wondered whether anyone could recommend a site near Lynn Peninsula, Porthmadog, Harlech. I haven't been to this area of Wales before and would like to explore it. My wants are;
- Seaviews or very near the sea
- not to far from a town
- not too bothered about electric, would like a site with a bit of 'atmosphere'
Hope my wants aren't too restrictive!!
Thanks
Claire

I can't recommend any specific site because I haven't stayed at any campsites in Wales but I have stayed with friends in Harlech which is a lovely place and I can certainly recommend it.
There are a couple of campsites within a few minutes walk of the beach which looked ok from outside.
Min y Don is probably the nearest to the sea of those listed in Bob61's link - no actual sea view as it's behind dunes, but a good view of the castle. As to the site itself you'd have to check recent reveiws as I've not visited since it changed hands a few years ago and stopped accepting tents.
Porthmadog is one of the busiest towns in the area and has a non-tent site called Ty Bricks (not listed here as far as I know) within walking distance of shops and the Porthmadog section of the Welsh Highland Railway. No sea view though.
There are a number of large sites along the coast from there (See Camp Site Search again!) towards Aberdaron, where about fifteen years ago a tent pitch on a sheep pasture cost me all of £1.50!
For "atmosphere" I'd recommend Shell Island (a few miles south of Harlech) but for the fact they can't take caravans.
We have had good stays at Hayan Y Mor, Pwllheli. It is a Haven site with a very good touring area. good staff, lots for the kids to do, and fairly reasonably priced pitches. Details on line. You will always find a touring site along the road from Harlech towards Caernarfon unless you pick main season. Happy hunting
