Rose Farm Campsite at St Brelade, Jersey has been refused a licence to operate due to poor conditions.

The owner has stated that he will now probably develop the land (by that I think he means he will sell to developers who will build luxury homes the likes of us can't afford) It is a shame that he can't spend the money and bring what was once a brilliant campsite up to date at a time when camping is increasingly popular.

I have three sides, left, right and wrong - which one are you on?

We stayed at a lovely site last year. Very reasonable and nicely located. Found out on our last day that it was shutting a couple of days later.

If you see a family struggling to put up the tent then it must be us!

Our favourite site closed four years ago. It was a country estate and the owners already had a couple of time share units and farm house etc for rent. They are adding to the time shares.

Another site - Par sands - has gone to static holiday homes only.

Is it the way to go? do these sites make more money, our favourite are now heading towards self catering as the time shares dont do too well. On a full week he had 250 units and could make thousands in one week in summer.

No, really?!

I used to stay at a lovely little tents only site in Falmouth called Tremorvah, that was to be sold off to developers.  The last time i drove by, 2008, it was still empty and overgrown, such a shame we loose these little gems.

Just out of interest, where would you find campsites for sale?

I'm sure most of us dream about running our own site, where are they advertised?

Is there a rightmove for campsites?

Just if anyone knows

Thanks in advance.

Cauldron Barn Farm campsite at Swanage used to be a regular site for me but then they stopped taking tents, which is unfortunate because I think it is the only site within easy walking distance of the seafront. I have since found other nice sites in the area but they are a car ride into the town which means no point in visiting my favourite pub in the town either unless I drink orange juice

Campsites and pubs should have a Grade I preservation order on them from day one!  It should be a matter of national priority!  There's nothing more tragic than losing that special place of peace and happy vibes...

There are specialist agents who sell campsites

Fox Leisure & Edwards & Partners are just 2 of the main ones

I was just about to say that

...and Cauldron Barn should realise that by denying my custom they have also denied the local pub my custom...and they used to make a good profit out of me

...could use a taxi I suppose

Our "best caravan site ever" closed down several years ago and while we still pass it from time to time and the toilet blocks etc are still there, it is all overgrown now and in a sorry looking state.

It is at Arduaine, just round the corner from the famous Arduaine Gardens and the Loch Melfort Hotel.

The site itself sits on the beach between the A816 and Arknish Bay and overlooks the Islands of Shuna and Luing.

There is a Jetty there where fishing boats would land fresh fish for the hotel and campers could buy some if they wished. There was a slipway beside the jetty for launching trailered boats and there was always canoes drawn up on the beach.

Hopefully someone will see the potential of this site and re-open it.
