My parents would like to expriance the joys of caravaning, I was planning to tow the van to a club site on a weekend and stay in it with the family and let my parents joing us on Sunday evening and stay on their own for the rest of the week. Is this possible as we are members but they are not?

I don't believe you can do this, but the best thing to do is check with the Caravan Club and the site. Much better than getting there and then finding out you can't do it.
If the site accepts non-members (not all Caravan Club sites do), then they will be able to stay, BUT, they will have to pay extra on top of normal site fees. I think it is £7 per night extra.
I have done a similar thing in the past (2001) with my parents up on Park Coppice CC site, i was told it was ok, as long as they were family and we were not letting the caravan out commercially for profit.

I don't know about the CC, but the C&CC allow a "second" membership card in addition to your first. EG I have joined C&CC and I could give them my inlaws name and they'd post me a second membership card with my inlaws name on it, and they would get the same membership priviledges as I do. Perhaps the CC do something similar?
------------- 2011 plans:
April - Exmoor 11 nights
May - Brynawelon, Wales 3 nights
July - Rendlesham Forest 4 nights
Then I am off back home to Australia, where the weather is always perfect for camping :)
THere should be no problem with doing that but they would have to pay an extra £7 a night Rather than do this they might find it better to join the club on arrival and pay the £38 membership which would be cheaper for them if they are staying 6 nights ( arrive Sunday leave Saturday ).

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
I'm not a great believer in failing to tell people things, just because it suits me. You usually get found out, and it would certainly affect my opinion of someone if they tried to conceal pertinent facts.
