Has anyone ever ordered groceries to be delivered to their campsite?

Which supermarket did you use?

And would you do it again?

Thanks

Is it possible to do this? I didn't think that Tesco's would deliver to business addresse? If they do I would agree with Ang/Ken that you would need to let the site know first.

Yes but can you class a pitch on a campsite a business address?

We had real problems getting them to deliver to our house because it was on a caravan park and obviously when we enter our postcode it came up as a business address - maybe i should just give them a pitch number then!

Last year I stayed at a site that had a local farm shop deliver meat and veg to order. It was and excellent service, our order was there when we arrived. It's a good idea linking up with farm shops selling local stuff on a number of levels:-

1. Less to carry in the car

2. Putting money into the local economy

3. Keeping money out of corporate tills

We have had our holiday shopping delivered by Tesco's for the last four years. No problems at all, just check with the campsite first that they don't mind (nobody ever has!) I think it's great, not having to go shopping on the first day of the holiday, not to mention all the spare space you make in the car.

We haven't had it delivered to a campsite yet but did have it delivered a couple of years ago to a hire boat marina.  If I remember rightly at the time only Tesco could do it - I couldn't get Sainsburys to do it.  We had to let the boat yard know we were doing it and of course if you have it delivered prior to your arrival you can't knock back any substitutes and have to hope that they have got your order correct.  It was great for us at the time just had to load it onto the boat with our gear and set sail.

Tesco delivered to the pitch next to us when at Trefalun near Tenby a few years ago.

Tell you I was SO  jealous, had never thought of it - how wonderful.

Going to try myself this summer.

I actually don't agree with this at all!! Why line the pockets of Tescos when you are on holiday when the local shops and butchers would really appreciate your business. One of the points of tourism is that visitors hopefully spend money funding the local ecomony. Most sites are in rural areas and those shops and business really rely on visitors spending money. I personally think it is morally wrong boosting the profits of the big supermarkets when rural businesses crave your business.

Rant commence

Hear hear! Good on you. Tesco already thinks it is The Ministry Of Food, drives farmers out of business and is responsible, along with the other mega supermarkets for the death of god knows how many town centres and small businesses, and that's not to mention how they have crippled British farming (you know, those people that look after the countryside on our behalf).

Rant over

Each to their own I say.  Not everyone can afford farm shop/local prices or even have the inclination.

Personally I prefer food from farmers markets, good local fresh produce etc but finding these places in an unfamiliar area isn't that simple when the internet is at home.  Upon arriving on site often late afternoon its can be a case of where is the nearest supermarket so we can actually eat something by tea time - if someone prefers to pre-order well thats their choice.

I support my local businesses at home & recycle at home and on holiday as much as the site allows - but we are on holiday after all & therefore we just do what we can when we can.

In 2007 we took 100 Scouts and parents to Bowling Green site in East Lulworth which was a base for our trips over to Brownsea for the Centenary celebrations. We had a Tesco delivery, 2 vans needed for a shopping bill of nearly £1000

Hi

A few years back we broke down near Balloch enroute to our hols in Scotland. The lovely breakdown man took us and our van to Lomond Woods campsite in Balloch and the car to Glasgow for major autobox repairs.

We only had our bikes for transport but discovered that the local Co-op offered free home delivery. We went and did our shopping, arranged for free home delivery and paid.

The shopping arrived at our pitch by van a few hours later   There was no problem with delivering it to our pitch - we just let the campsite reception know - no problem from their point of view.

A real help to us in our carless predicament.

Tim
