Can anyone help me? I am looking for a campsite in Scotland for a 2 week hol in June. I would prefer it to be next to or near water where we can canoe, but as we are camping for a while, would like a play area for the kids. We're not necessarily interested in a club or similar, just a nice, clean campsite. I have looked at so many, but can't find what I'm looking for. Thanks.

Do you want to be near a loch, or the sea (or white water)? For lochs, I'd look along the Caledonian Canal (Fort Agustus- Inverness), or for the sea, I'd look at the Aberdeenshire & Moray coasts.

In June, I'd avoid the West unless you enjoy being eaten by midgies or have a very good insect repellant.

Two drifters off to see the world.

I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.

Thanks. I think a loch would be preferable, and I am already looking into repellant! I don't know Scotland at all and I'd like to minimise the risk of finding a bad site as we will be there for 2 wks.

Glenmore Forestry Site near Aviemore - large shallow lake for canoeing complete with a "sandy" beach, almost every other outdoor activity you can thing of near to hand. Good shower blocks. Plenty of space for tents.

Clachtoll Beach Campsite will give you a wide choice of both fresh and salt water canoeing and is very popular amongst the canoeing fraternity.

I also think Glenmore Forestry Site near Aviemore would suit you and your needs. Im booked there for myself for 4 nights in July. You can buy a forestry loyalty card for £12 a year that gives you great discounts at every forestry site around the UK and there are many all with excellent facilities.

thanks Tiggarsmum, I've been on that site a few years ago but I thought it was closed - or has it changed name? Maybe I'm getting mixed up with another site!

Its always been called that as far as I can remember. You might be thinking of Silverbeach along the road a bit. It shut down about six of seven years ago.
