I have said for years I want to venture into Wales and Scotland, anyway decided to do one of them this year, basically in July around 7-10 days plan on moving around 3 times, we like walking, and outdoor life in general,we have a daughter of 14 she likes walking etc, so which would you do and where would you go, Midges will be bad in Scotland at that time, thats whats putting me off there, Wales people tell me weather can be a bi iffy, but go on persuede me which one to do.

Wales definitely, the weather can be even more iffy in Scotland! the west coast of Scotland has the most spectacular scenery but you would be lucky to see it for the rain and mist, and then when the rain stops the midges come out. I suppose you could go to the east of Scotland but I'm not well up on that part.

From where you live it isn't far to North Wales, so you could go to Snowdonia, Anglesey, the Lleyn Peninsula, the west coast around Harlech/Tywyn and stop near Llangollen either coming or going, or you could go south to Pembrokeshire.

Another Wales vote here....from Lancashire I would do somewhere in Snowdonia..maybe the Forest Holidays park in Beddgelert?...that would cover walking in the mountains & absolutely stunning scenery! You could treat the family to a walk (or train ride) up Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales and take in the awesome views from the new summit cafe.

Then venture down to Mid-Wales to Fforest Fields campsite. Our personal favourite in Wales - great forest/country walks and the people that own it really know the meaning of a relaxed 'no rules' holiday....exactly how a trip to the country should be.

For your third stop - how about Freshwater East Caravan Club site (they also take tents). A couple of minutes walk at most and you are straight on to a lovely sandy beach. Some great castles in the local area, and of course there is Oakwood theme park.

Come to Wales :)
