Hi, we are new to camping, hoping to go for a first outing on Easter weekend after we finally purchase our tent - we think we've decided on th Outwell Montanna6, hope we're doing the right thing!
Anyhow, just been searching for campsites and was a little shocked to see the average being £15 - £20. I don't know what I expected, guess i'm getting old, but does anyone know if you can camp for less? We're two adults, a 2 year old and a dog - not after anythung fancy, perhaps a pub nearby......

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Cheers, Liz

If you are a member of the Camping & Caravanning Club (C&CC) you have access to Certified Sites (CS) which are often under £10 per night but have very basic facilities - usually just a chemical disposal point and a tap although some have electric hook up, toilets and showers.

A word of advice - Easter weekend usually has a minimum stay (3 or 4 nights at most sites) and as it is school holiday it will be expensive and many sites are already fully booked. You can expect to pay up to £40 per night at Easter at some sites!!

Thanks Helen - £40 a night, that's madness! Appreciate the heads up. Do you think it's worth while becoming a member of the C&CC?

No i wouldnt bother to be honest , just for weekends . I joined one year and only used a camp once , saving £2 a night.

Which areas are you looking at , you will always find that camps on the net are usually more expensive...shop around camping books etc , im sure you will find some basics for a tenner or less a night

Use the site search on here to find a site.
Decide what area yo uwant to go and stick a pin in the map decide what you want from the site and cllick search. it will bering up all the stie in the 30 mile radius of the pin.
Then it's just a matter of clicking and reading about them

On the 'up to £40 a night for a site' - well it wouldn't us because I just wouldn't pay that for anywhere (and I am not having a go at the poster because I know they are just telling it as it could be).

I wouldn't bother joining the club either as there are many more sites that charge far less and are just as good, even more so if you are tenters - the joining fee would pay for a weekends camping somewhere.
My absolute Max is £20 a night and for that it would be an Easter or October site with something extra on site in case the weather wasn't good.

Max we paid, family of 4 and tent - was £18 a night last year and that was in August at a brilliant site in Wales.

You should be able to find something around £12-£15 quite readily but that's if you just want good showers, wash up , laundry facilites and not bars/clubs/kids activites etc

I'm with you Keely - I wouldn't pay £40 a night either but I know some sites that will chrage that for Easter/Bank Holiday (and I know you weren't having a go at me!!)

Personally, I think it's worth being a member of C&CC because their Family Deal works out cheaper for us. Also having access to CL and CS and rally/meets and Temporary Holiday sites makes it a cheap way for our family to camp.

Have a look at what the Clubs offer and then see if it's right for you and your family.

Thank you everyone for all your help/advice, pretty overwhelmed that people are so kind to take the time.

Dancinglily - We're in Freckleton, near Lytham - if that's any help? We want to go far enough away to make it worth the while, yet near enough for it to be a 'bolt hole' for weekends....if you know what i mean!? I think we might want the world, we're very excited! x

fron farm in north wales, near mold is lovely and its reasonable as well, you pay per person and i think under 3's are free, so much to do for your little one, my kids love it there, another great place is greenacres farm park in queensferry, bit more expensive, but it includes admission into the farm where there is so much going on, we have to drag my kids away from the place if i need to go shopping, also at night they have a kids disco, bbq's etc, some of the reviews from past few years arent that good, but last summer they really cracked down on noise etc, we are going may half term, all of august, every weekend in sept and oct, and  have been going for the past 4 yrs.

all can be found on the review section here.

good luck.

Hi

Conwy touring park is reasonably cheap, and large well spaced out site

A good site for your first trip, and nice views over the estury, and a short drive to conwy

Happy Camping

Pete (from Wallasey)
