Hello, this is my first post. I have an Outwell Vermont XL and it is perfect for our 5 piece family. We go every year to Sandy Balls but this year decided to go to a different site due to their hefty price rise! However I am worried about turning up tp a site and trying to pitch a tent 7.7 x 4.8 metres. At Sandy Balls last year our pitch was big enough for the tent but we had to leave our car in the car park. I thought about selling the XL and buying a smaller tent but it is hard to find one still big enough. It seems the trend is currently to make tents bigger, how are the sites reacting to this? Any suggestions for a site in Dorset with a big enough pitch?

Woodyhyde (suggested by Bob61) as it charges per person, could possibly work out cheaper than Norden Farm (on the opposite side of Corfe Castle, which charges according to unit size (plus a - generally lower - charge per person).
We've been to Sandy Balls and can't believe how much they've hiked their prices
Have a look at East Fleet Farm which is about 3 miles from Weymouth (sorry I'm not sure how to post the link ). Fab views over the Fleet Lagoon and great reviews as well. Although I think you may have to pay a little extra for a large tent.

I mirror what MRS E says about East Fleet farm. We spent a week there a couple of years ago in September. Facilities were really nice, staff were friendly too. Has a little bar/restaraunt in a converted barn. They put our caravan in the camping field and there appeared to be all sizes pitched there.
My friends have an Outwell Vermont XL and have stayed at Moreton C&CC site and are booked in at Verwood C&CC site for easter and various other sites in Dorset as well - no problem with the tent size.

I have to agree with vwstarbug. The Inside park at Blandford is a super site! It doesn't have the pools that Sandy Balls has and would probably end up being a different kind of holiday but it's a great site.
Hi, would def give Freshwater Beach a try. We always get our Vango diablo and at least one car on the pitch. It's a great site for kids, always hot showers and very clean.
Have fun
Me again! - Jest re read your post..... Osmington Mills Corner campsite take large tents at no extra cost - The group in a little hilly - but if you get there early you can usually get a good pitch!
Good Luck and enjoy beautiful Dorset x

Looking forward to summer 2010 to get out in the new tent!!
We were at Eastfleet in summer 2009 and friends opposite our caravan had their large tent plus car with no problems. When we had a Vango Aspen 700DLX plus car and trailer we had two stays at Wood Farm in Charmouth and had great pitches with stacks of room.
Our experience with a large tent was to book early and tell them the size of the tent. We only had one site say it was too big for them but the next we called accepted it.
