Can anyone recommmend a good overnight stop near dover ready to catch a ferry at 8.a.m. for a journey in july

Try Blackhorse Farm - used by forum users here including myself last year.  Just a couple of miles from the ferry and a very nice site even if you are not getting the ferry.  I would certainly use again.

if the main sites are full try a CL, many have no gates on the field so you can leave whenever you want and the prices are cheaper.
