Hi everyone,

We have booked to go down to Cornwall for two weeks in the kids holidays and we are looking for a campsite somewhere in the Devon area not too far away from the main road back down South, any suggestions.  We would travel Friday kids break up during the day.  Someone suggested Taunton Dean services but don't fancy staying in service station overnight! but don't want to be too far away as we will want to get off ASAP on the Saturday.  We are looking for a one nighter any ideas??

Friends of ours stay on Exeter race course to break their journey to Cornwall. Myself, if we needed a stop over I'd use one of the services, every facility you could want is on hand, you can pull in & leave just when you want & you can choose which one to stop at when you're ready to stop instead of booking ahead to use a site.

And if you stay over 2 hours in any of them make sure you pay the necessary fee or risk a large fine when you get home, a lot of them now use camera technology to monitor how long you stay.

we too are traveling down that way first two weeks of main holidays, as its the first week M5 will be V busy on the saturady, so we will leave home very early hours and travel through night, with two or three generous stops at services, we always use the service areas for a rest break, they are free as long as you dont use their shop/cafe.

Our hols start a week earlier on 17th (whatever the Friday is).  This years a bit different because we've booked a house with 10 of us in St Ives - we're still going in the van but the booking's Fri - Fri so for the first time ever I am going to take our kids out of school for that last day and go Thursday night so hopefully bit less traffic.  Usually we go on our hols to Cornwall on that first Friday night and stop over near Tewkesbury - yeah I know it's not very far when you're going to Cornwall but the traffic's busy and it takes us over two hours to get there - and we don't generally get going til about 7.30. I know we are two hours further up from you and you'll be fine if you pick them up from school at 3pm with your van, - however, if you go home, get changed, eat tea etc etc you'll find it gets later very quickly!!! What I'm saying is - don't underestimate how busy it will be on that Friday and make sure you find a site that is willing to accept you late at night (some are funny about this even in the height of summer).  I don't think you'll have any problem finding a site for one night - obviously you want something cheap as you're not going to be there that long - maybe one on a pub would be a good idea?  Ooh ooh I am looking forward to going myself now - roll on summer.....

We are travelling from North West to Cornwall and wanted a stop-over roughly half way.

We've just booked a one night stop-over at Ashe Farm and they were lovely on the phone.

We wanted to get past Bristol and Ashe Farm is Thronfalcon, Taunton - just off the motorway.

Many thanks for all your brilliant advice and suggestions. Given me some ideas. Cannot wait to get away and hopefully the weather on side for us all this year.

If you belong to the Caravan Club their Minnows Site at Sampford Peverell Tiverton is ideal as it is about 1/2 mile off M5 Junction 27. On checking at Sites Directory it appears it is an affiliated site and they do take non-members. Booking is direct with site - phone 01884 821770. Opened on the 8th March. If you are going to North Cornwall this might be a good place to stop as you can they travel via A361 & A39 if you wsih rather than the A30.
