Hi Bumbles, loads of lovely places to visit but I would agree with Arisaig area, the scenery and sunsets are 'awsome'. A day trip on a Calmac ferry over to Rum, Eigg etc is well worth it (Kinloch Castle on Rum is amazing). Theres a small ferry to Knoydart, an area only accessible by boat.

The Kintyre peninsula is lovely as is everything above Ullapool... and south of it too!!

Don't think I'm helping much now

Oh, breezy is good, helps keep the midgies down !!!

Never been myself, other than Fort William, but am also looking to go this summer. Am considering heading to Arisaig on Thursday for the weekend depending on what the weather's like. Arisaig sounds lovely.

Lovely area, but spoiled by midgies in the summer, so we stick to the East. You'll see numerous posts on this topic.

Haven't been to the Ullapool site since they installed midge eaters, but it is on the coast and I never had a problem with midges any time I stayed there.

Oban is a lovely place too http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=4833  We've stayed here a few times as well in June/July and never had midges.

Machrihanish is on our list this year, so looking forward to a change of scenery.

We've found staying near the coast cuts down on the risk of midges due to the breeze.

The sites on the west coast of Kintyre have no midge problems - because of they're so close to the sea/breeze.
Beautiful sunsets and beach fires . . .

It's true that midgies can't fly in a breeze, but if it's a calm day, they're out in force. I know, I've been there.
