Hubby has suggested IoW for our summer holiday this year.  I've looked over the listings for the island and read some of the reviews so I think I know which site we're going to head to (Whitefield Forest). 

Some sites though offer to book your ferry for you too, inclusive in the price.  Is it worth doing this or is it cheaper to book the ferry separately?  Any advice would be appreciated.

lol, take a look at the ferry websites (wightlink and red funnel), cos you can get cheaper deals depending on what time of day you book!!! but you will have to do the maths and work out what the camsites are charging and what you can do it for seperately! (cant help you with that im afraid, i have never booked the ferry with the campsite lol)

and remember NOT to put any wood on your bbq once you have finished cooking if you are going to whitefield forest! it seems to be a pet hate of the owners and they do 'spot checks'!!!

if you go for an early/middle of the night ferry, be aware that there is not much open on the island after 5 o clock! there is a 24hr tesco in ryde, but that will be it!

  I'll give Wightlink a phone call and see what they can do.  It might be cheaper, but from what I can see, it won't be much!  :D   I'm really looking forward to it now. 

Red Funnel have an offer for 5 nights at various parks including Whitefield Forest with return ferry for car +4 people from £105. Only problem is that they do not offer this in the summer. We went in October last year and it was great value.
