Here are all the IOW sites. Choose your requirements from the list on the left and you will be left with suitable site. Then plenty of reviews to read on them too

Hi Sal,

We stayed here  http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=6722  for 3 weeks last summer with our dog and it was ideal, lots of walking direct from the site, bus stop at the end of the lane and the dog was welcome on the bus, a large tesco 1/4 mile down the road, well run with great facility's.

the west wight have some lovely sites near to the beach,..... check out compton farm for a basic site on a working farm near one of the locals favourite beach (aaargh and im telling you all on a public forum lol)

stoats farm, freshwater, heathfield farm , freshwater are all within walking distance of the beaches...

grange farm, brighstone holiday park, atherfield bay are all on the cliffs with walkways down to the beach.

Nodes point, st helens, park resorts has a camping field that leads directly down to the beach!!

checkout http://www.iwight.com/dogorders/maps.asp this tells you which beaches that have dog bans in force.

anymore quiestions, give me a try lol!!!

(and its 'Wight' rather then 'white' please !!

Hello to all and thank you so much for your recomendations!

Despite this probably being the longest reply in the history of forums.our plans are now back on for the (big apologies) Isle of Wight and we now have a shortlist of 4.

Prioritys are fantastic views & open field camping. Facilities can be as basic as you like. We love the look of Grange Farm but are unsure about the high winds on the hill top, is the same true of Compton Farm?

Stoats Farm looks really nice but there are few reviews & nothing to make it stand out, are there good views there?

Heathfield Farm has a great website & looks spacious despite marked pitches, but are the views obscured by the hedges? & is all a bit too twee?

We would greatly appreciate a bit more info please if you a have a spare minute?

Happy camping to you all

Sal, Dave & Barney the Dog

I have stayed at both grange farm and compton farm.  Grange farm does get windy but compton farm is slightly further back from the cliff (the other side of the road) down a lane and protected by a large hedge - all the tents pitch along the lower edge of the field and parascenders are often seen on top of the ridge.  There is no sea view from your tent at compton and a short walk along a path and steep descent to the beach.  The site at compton is friendly but very basic.  The beach is also my favourite - it is fairly narrow sand at high tide particularly at the compton end but every year we find fossels there and the kids love finding the dinosaur footprints at low tide.  I would recommend either.

Hi Sonn thank you so much for your input. I found the Compton website and it looks lovely there despite no sea view. Think will try and stay there to avoid risk of high winds.

Cheers & thanks again to everyone for taking the time, and especially to Tina for sharing!
