Hi we have 2 girls nearly 4yrs and 14 months and we are looking for any recommended sites within about 1 hour of Leeds (little one gets tetchy if in car much longer at the mo). They don't need much just a friendly place with space to run around - not too bothered about a play area, nice walks very close to campsite and amenities not too far away, say 10 min by car. WE have used the reviews and camped before but that was prior to our youngest and wanted someones own experience . Thanks xx

Hi there

We stayed at Runswick bay camping site near Whitby - plenty of room for kids to run around and down a steep road to the beach - rock pools etc and coastal path walks. Ten minutes drive to Whitby. http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=2752

Noticed the camping field was large and you had quite a decent sized plot. Caravan field was much more regimented and not as much space between units - once again, it pays to go without electric, much more freedom and space.

HOpe you find somewhere good to go!

What about Holme Valley at Holmfirth?? Doesn't sound much but it's actually quite nice. Field a bit on a slope but there are flat bits, nice walk in the woods around the site that go down to the river. Large fishing pond and loads of ducks to feed. Little shop but a large Co-op less than 5mins away. Some great walks out at Dingley resevoir and Dove Stone. We go there a lot, we enjoy camping for the camping not so much holidays!!

Hi,Riverside Campsite at Cononley near Skipton is not too far away for you.
Lovely walks along the river and canal, there is a play area and lots of space for the kids to play.
You can hop on the train to Skipton as the station is only down the road and the Railway pub will let kids in early doors but they do not do food.
There is also Masons Campsite at Appletreewick, again fab walks on the river and places like Grassington are a short car drive away.
Hooks House Campsite at Robin Hoods Bay is brilliant too but a couple of hours away by car.
Sorry I cannot do the link but you will find all the sites on the campsite search.

Ooo Val, you beat me to it, I was going to say Riverside too. Its just down the road from me, and seems very popular. It takes us about 45 mins to drive to Morley, to give you some idea of distance!

Also the Harrogate/Knaresborough area would be about an hour from you. Ripley seems to get good reviews, although Ive not been myself. Or Cote Ghyll, Osmotherly, I reckon would be about an hour and a quarter, looks a long way but most of it is M62 - A1 so wouldnt take as long as you think.

Cote ghyll at Osmotherley. It has a nice playarea and a sand pit and it has some lovely walks from the site. It is in close driving distance (turn right out of main site road for about 2 mins) of a lovely picnic/stream area for paddling and fishing you can easily walk to it also but with little legs!!! Our young kids love it here.

I will also second Holme Valley. Ducks and a great stream to paddle in.

The Ranch at Cliffe, Selby is not far from you and 10 mins into Selby. Only a short drive then to York.

Brandy Whalf is not too far and a fantastic spot for kids..Lots of chickens. Godfrey puts a bouncy castle up for the kids in the summer foc.

Clumber park.

50 minutes easy drive from Leeds. Endless woodlands to play in, nice play area, easy pitching, 10 minutes drive to Sainsburys.

Our usual impulsive site: if we feel like a couple of nights away: its so easy.

Another vote for Cote Ghyll - it's one of our favourite sites.
