Take a look at Steamer Quay, Totnes. No E.H.U. but charge battery if required Alongside river Dart, in town center, everything you could possibly need within easy walking distance. River cruises to Dartmouth, good bus services alll over the place so you can park the car up, a rare treat these days. we love this site and the area

Sorry Ruth just had another look at your post and presumed caravan but note you are tenting "Silly Billy". Site is caravans only . plenty of sites between Totnes and Paignton which may be of help to you

Is it just me that thinks this isn't too bad (considering the prices being charged at the moment) for a family of 5 on a bank holiday at a site such as River Dart? Yes it does seem excessive at first but I'd assume that's including ehu and all the kids are at the age where they need to be payed for. Prices being what they are right now I reckon you'd be hard pushed to get a similar site in the area at a cheaper price for a bank holiday.

We're paying £237 for a week at river dart in August.  Thats for 2 adults and 2 kids with no EHU.  I thought that £34 a night was ok considering the location and facilities.  To go as day visitors it would cost us £27.80 per day anyway.

I think it's relative.  We could camp a lot cheaper in a field somewhere but then we would pay more in terms of activities & days out for the kids.  A basic  2 bed static in devon for the same week was coming up at £641.
