Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
We love Cote Ghyll at Osmotherley - really lovely site within easy walking distance of the village which has small shop, 3 pubs and a chippy. Lovely walks around Cod Beck Reservoir and the Sheep Wash and you're within an hours drive of Whitby, Scarborough and Filey if you fancy a day at the seaside. The market town of Northallerton is a 10 minute drive away for the supermarkets and leisure centre.
Might be worth contacting them to see if they have any availability?
We had lovely BH weekend at Proctor's Stead near Craster. It was pretty full but very quiet. Basic site, takes dogs - no frills, but we loved it and I will def try to persuade family to go back. I loved walking the dog down to the sea in the mornings. Take the kids to Dunstanburgh castle - great walk from the campsite. Must be most dramatic castle in UK. Very near Alnwick too although if you live up here you've prob been there. We love it there.
We've had the same idea to go later and have booked in holidays at work so we can go on the Monday. There are some lovely sites around Filey, it might be worth looking at the reviews for one that would suit you. Our favourite is Flower of May and from our experience it tends to quieten down on the bank holiday itself, hope this is of some use.
Byreside near Consett? Nice, cheap (at least it was), friendly owner, some good places to go and you can walk or cycle the old railway which runs alongside the site.
Have you tried looking on either the Caravan Club or the Camping and Caravanning Club websites, as I know there is a few to choose from in the Northumberland region, where I live? Also there is Kielder Water, which has a caravan site at Leaplish and is great for walking, cycling and watersports. You don't say which part of Tyneside you live, but would the Caravan Club site at Old Hartley (Whitley Bay) be too near to you? This site overlooks St Mary's lighthouse and is great for cycling/walking along the coast from here.
