My daughter would like to take some friends to camp for one night in the new forest, for her 13th birthday... (last year was in our garden but things move on...)  Of course, we (parents) would go with her - giving them the family tent (gulp) and we'll squeeze in to the pup tent.  Can you recommend a quiet campsite with big pitches where horses roam nearby, where the girls could have fun running around etc and not disturb other campers - because although well behaved, I know they will be chatting in the tent until late...This if for an early september weekend.

Thanks

Try contacting your local 'Girl Guides/Cubs/Scouts', I know they camp in The New Forest, Long shot but worth a try

Jo went somewhere in the New Forest last year where they got horse dropping in for breakfast.
I'll give her a nudge (she might be at work)

Wouldn't want to swap places with you though - a gaggle of 13yr olds, no thank you

Roundhills is a lovely huge campsite as i remember it been a few years though.  The horses roam through the campsite freely and it has some fantstic walks and place for the kids to go off and explore.  Was definately my favourite campsite as a kid and will most certainly be taking my kids there as soon as we get the chance.

Roundhill was where we went too, and we like it so much we are going again soon.

There are no pitch sizes, you might get a group discount if you get a Forest card when you book.

We had a pony in the awning....they are very determined....bit spooky when they slope past the tent in the middle of the night!!! Kids ( 4 girls 6,7,10 and 10) spent all weekend mooching around te site looking at the foals and donkeys etc

Beaulieu is within walking distance....

There are no EHU`s and no campfires...only down side.

Thank you - the Roundhill site looks great -would have to book for 2 nights but only go for one - but I think it would be worth it.  Will try scouts/guiding too.

What a wonderful website this is!

Another Forestry Commission site is Ashurst.  Again pitch where you like, woods, horses etc.  There is a train that runs down beside but we pitched over other side and noise wasn't too bad.  Also, there is a family pub next door that does good food!
