I live in Cornwall and would suggest arriving on a Saturday, wherever you stay
Try to arrive before 12:00 as it's manic from noon onwards, before 10:00 is preferable even if you need to wait to pitch
When you get down to Exeter pick up Radio Devon 103.4FM, 94.8FM, 95.8FM, 96FM, 104.3FM and after crossing the Tamar at Launceston or Plymouth depending on your chosen route pick up Pirate FM, 102.2 /102.8 it provides excellent traffic reports. Frequent black spots Okehampton, Plymouth, Temple (Bodmin area)
If you can, use a sat nat so you can re-route, if you hit heavy traffic or the almost habitual weekly long delays due to 3 lanes going in to 2 lanes or a caravan being overturned but du remember to monitor road sides (or as above set sat nav as for bus/truck ) as some minor Cornish roads are extremely narrow and test reversing skills.
When you do arrive, have a nice holiday
Regards Jude
