Hi,

Can anyone tell me when there will be midges at North Ledaig, and what remedies you would recomend to keep them away. Thanks. Jim

We went there many years ago after having moved from the Kinlochewe Caravan Club site because of a terrible problem with midges. We had no problem at North Ledaig site.

West coast = midgies. Unlike Kinlochewe (I'm there next week), the CC don't specifically recommend insect repellant at Ledaig, but I'd take some anyway. If you're lucky, there will be a breeze to keep them at bay.

(If you're a fan of the 'Para Handy' books, you'll find loads of references to the 'mudgies' at the west coast and Hebridean ports.)

North Ledaig site itself is by the coast, so less likely to get midges than inland - but certainly still likely if the weather conditions are right for them. It's a beautiful site and well worth the risk!

I've yet to try it, but lots of folk recommend Skin So Soft by Avon as the best insect repellant. It's not marketed as a repellant, but it supposedly really works,

Avon Skin so Soft did not work for me at all a few years ago at Gruinard Bay. Mind you, I did get followed home a couple of times.

Hi,

We were at North Ledaig last weekend and there were no midges. We had mixed conditions, rain, drizzle, sun, wind everything, but no midges. As has been mentioned previously, it's probably the slight breeze being on the coast that keeps them under control. It is maybe still a little early for the height of the midge season though.

We went on a small forest walk and there were quite a few there.

The onsite shop has lenty of rememdies for sale.
