Hi - well we are looking at going away camping in August this year, 2010, for a mid week break, no date in mind really so really flexible, but looking for something that is going to take a large 6 man family tent with 2 adults and 2 children and has electric hook-up. Looking at visiting legoland and chessington while camping so near to them would be great - any one got any suggestions/recommendations?
Thanks Claire

Hi we are going to Legoland next month - I looked at the two main campsites for Lego Land, Amerden & Hurley - we ruled out Amerden because of the road noise but I can't remember why we ruled out Hurley even though I've been there before - could be the lack of kids play area?. We decided on Chertsey C&CC & even joined the club to go there as its on the banks of the River Thames, has a play area and a few amenities a walk away.
I've just been looking at Chertsey but it is quite expensive for August, £31 a night plus member fee on top. Amerden looks real nice and has space for August, a kids play area is a must really I think just to give us some 'us' time! Amerden has had some brill reviews, suppose you get used to any noises?
Don't get me wrong I've heard its a great site but I think its the M5? runs directly behind the campsite & can be really noisy all night through but apparently if you ask to be pitched near the play area then its less noisy but I have to say for us the motorway plus the planes would be a bit too much to bear.

We used to go here when visiting Legoland...Wellington Country Park. It has a couple of small niggles....all these pine cones under the groundsheet, for example, and you can't drink the tap water...but as a plus you get free access to the country park out of hours and that's fantastic for the kids. Mine loved the woodland setting of the campsite too...and the resident peacocks. Make sure you arrive when the park reception is open though, or make firm arrangements otherwise.

We've just come back from Amerden - absolute gem of a site, but yes the noise is horrendous! A constant roar from the combined M4 and planes every two minutes
Definitely quieter nearer the play area. We were there for 3 nights and it was more than enough. But it is very close to Legoland - we spent one day there, then had a day in Windsor, boat rides etc. Very nice area to visit.
Agree with previous poster, we stayed at Wellington Country Park last year with our large 6 man tent (Hartford XL) 2 adults & 2 children. Both boys loved it and still talk about wanting to go back, close enough to Legoland but feels so far removed. Country park was brill to walk around after it had closed. Our view may be biased because we had fantastic weater when we visited but don't have any complaints about the site at all, you'd love it.
