Went there a couple of years ago, suited us a treat. There were 2 adults & 1 child aged 8. Ideal for walking into the town (5 mins at max), or going on longer walks, but also suitable for exploring the area. We would definately return there if in the area again.

The 47 reviews should give you a pretty good idea of what it is like once

Visited this site recently while out on a day trip with OH. It looked clean and tidy, pretty flat for pitching, hooks ups for tents, didn`t inspect showers etc though. It looked nice enough, but as all sites in this area we found it a tad on the expensive side for us.

Are you definitely wanting to visit Hawkshead, or just a Lake District site ? What sort of site are you looking for ? We like in the LD and know quite a few sites so may be able to help.

Ok, well lots of people like Keswick, close enough to M6 and within easy reach of other lakes.

Keswick C&CC is here  nice site, easy walking distance of Keswick town (5 mins), close to supermarket. It is prone to flooding though in heavy rain.

Other Keswick sites are Castlerigg Hall here or Castlerigg farm here . We have looked round the one on top of the hill (not sure which it is  now) and it seemed a nice, clean site with stunning views of the area.

Ullswater is a nice area and we have been to Park Foot twice, here , but it does have mixed reviews. It`s on the banks of Lake Ullswater, short walk by the side of the Lake into Pooley Bridge with it`s shops and couple of pubs. Plent of stuff on site for kids though, play parks and organised entertainment.

Another Ullswater sie is The Quiet site here , haven`t been ourselves but a friend has and recommends it. Ullswater is close to the M6 and yet again, other Lakes aren`t far away.

We actually fancy visiting this one at Wasdale . Easy distance of Eskdale and the La`al Ratty which your kids would love, as well as being not too far from any of the southern lakes.

Our favourites are Fisherground at Eskdale here , nice site which all kids seem to love and has it`s own stop on the La`al Ratty, or the Eskdale C&CC, here  slightly further up, which we have just spent the weekend at and thoroughly recommened.

After that we love Stanwix Park at Silloth, here . Nice, clean site with indoor and outdoor pools, amusements, play park and the chidlren`s entertainment at night in the Family Showbar is second to none. As it`s a family run site it`s not `Butliny` and we`ve never had a problem with noise or any trouble at all there. Close to beaches and within easy driving distance of other towns etc and plenty to do.

Failing all of those you could try round Grange over Sands, see site list here. Nice small town, close to M6, South Lakes Animal Park (great day out for families), plus within easy driving distance of Windermere, Ambleside, Coniston etc.

I hope that helps and if you need to know anything else, just let us know.
