We've decided to try and get away this September and would really like to try camping in a forest/woods. We really like the idea of being nestled quietly amongst trees and wildlife, so......

Where in the south/southwest would you guys suggest or recommend? I have tried doing various site searches on here under 'forest and 'woods' and have a couple of strong possibilities in the New Forest, but didn't want something fab to pass us by!

We do have a fairly big tent and prefer sites that are relatively small (100 pitches or under), EHU would be great but not essential, but showers are!!

We`ve just come back from a fantastic weekend at Roundhill in the New Forest. Its our second visit and we love it. There are no EHU`s, but the showers and toilets are really clean, and are being upgrade yesterday and today...hot water wise.

It is a big site, BUT because of the way its laid out, you can get in an alcove and only see your immediate neighbours all weekend. Usually we stick to REALLY small sites but we like this one.

I also have Inside Park in my list of must visits.

How about Graffham in West Sussex.It is a C&C Club site and you can pitch your unit right in the woods

Hole Station, near Beaworthy Devon.

Set amongst a forest, 12 pitches only and very quiet.  Campfires - each pitch has its own firepit.  Shower (solar) compost loos and no EHU.  Perfect location though with walk to local village pub.  Used to be our favourite site until they stopped dogs.

I only once set up camp under some big trees on a site down in Wiltshire, but found a sticky sap had dripped all over the awning by morning.

Next year we are planning to stay on a woodland CL in Norfolk, but we are wondering if we dare put the awning up because of this, and how other people have overcome the risk of possible damage from dripping sap?

Hmm, hadn't thought of sap , only bird poo!
