Hi - first post I'm afraid, so be gentle !

I'm looking for a site within a 3 hr drive radius of Chester and ideally want a very quiet picturesque site near a stream or river, where we can have a camp fire and lie out under the stars :-)

Not too worried about amenities, the corner of a friendly farmer's field would do, but not having been camping since I was in the scouts 30 years ago, I have an idealised view of what I want.

Any recommendations greatly received with thanks, and piccies even better !

Many thanks

Jonny

Hi Jonny, try this site, web site does not do justice but the site is great for kids and you can check the reviews on the forum. We found the owners very sound, take lots of clothes for kids and do not follow sat nav unless you want hardknott pass. We go from Oldham & it takes about 2.5hrs around the south end of lake district. Also has camp fires

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=1080

good luck and if you get any other ones let me know as our son loves playing in streams, and aventure parks / zips - just like the above

HI Misuja, please note:

Important: When posting details of a camp site, please ensure you link to their UKCampsite.co.uk listing, not direct to their website, to enable reviews etc to be read and left!

Thanks guys - will check them out. Ideally we're after a no kids one. Nothing against them, but don't have any (yet !) although you never know, a night under the stars can do wonders ;-)

Edited - Lyn Gwynant does look perfect ! I''l run it past her indoors.

Cheers

Hafod

We went here last year.

Open field, fires in fire pits already at the pitches, stream running through, no cars allowed on the tent field, cold water only expect for electric showers.

Did I mention it is at the foot of Snowdon?

£5 per person per night

Very strange, Lyn Gwynant suggested by Chris is about a mile or so from the site I suggested.

Even stranger, we are going to try Lyn Gwynant from Friday to Sunday in the Motorhome.

Look out for us in Freddie Jnr Don.

I'll be the one who parks up then remembers I've not filled the water tanks up and has to set off to a tap again. Week in week out I do the same.

Are you going up Snowdon?

I saw on the campsite message board you can do either Watkin or Miners from the site. I did Watkin from the Hafod campsite lasttime so know how to start that one.

Miners track looks to start further away and up the road but I can't guage the distances properly from google maps.

Are you all following me?

I have been to that one as well, we had a May bank holiday trip there in 2009 and went White Water Rafting.

I had forgotten about that site. People can pitch right next to the stream and fires are done in old car wheels.

Ben

I'll keep an eye out for Freddie Jnr

Not sure if we are walking up Snowdon yet, Depends on the weather (Don't fancy walking too far if it's as hot as it here in Brum at the mo, It's a bloody scorcher)

Did you enjoy it? Lyn Gwynant has been my favourite campsite for about the last twenty years, unfortunately the mrs won't do non ehu camping so I don't get many chances to go now. Heading up there with a few friends For August bank holiday to do some mountain biking, can't wait.
