Legge Farm  - An absolute gem of a site (former camping and caravanning club CS - now licensed for 10 untis plus tents).

Just realised this favourite site of ours isn't listed in the sites with fishing section here  and would like to give it a plug!  It's near the picture-postcard village of Hatherleigh in Devon, As well as being a well-regarded coarse fishery it also makes a lovely retreat  for non-fishermen who enjoy a tranquil rural setting!

The site has hardstandings with individual water and drainage with pitches being separated by recently planted shrubs and flowers. There is a male and female toilet and shower, immaculately maintained plus a washing machine and tumble drier with additional washing up facility. On top of this fabulous free range eggs can be bought from the farm! We've been regulars for around 11 years and still love it and can thoroughly recommend it.

There's also a caravan storage area.

All this for just £10 a night plus metered electricity (although I think prices may be under review)

Please see their website  http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=9845   ( a little out of date as pictures do not show hardstandings etc)

Used to hate awnings until we bought a Quest Rollaway

Ooh, thanks for this we are always looking for tranquil sites in the area for a quick getaway.  We used to go to Hole Station which is near the same village of Highampton but they stopped taking dogs (for what reason I don't know!) but Legge Farm looks just our kind of site!

They say on their website that there are 6 acres of woodlands/walks - is this all on site or next to the site please?  We like to go to parks where we have direct access to walks/woods to save using the car.

Yes, the woodland is within the boundaries of the site - there's also a number of public footpaths close by.(not used them personally though ! -- - - - -  yet;) )

Thanks!  Might give it a try week after next.

If you like fishing, we've just come back from another site with lakes in Somerset.  Thorney Lakes - lovely site!

How things  have changed!  I remember when it was a CS with  no hardstanding let alone water and drainage! It was a special place then and looks even better now, will certainly revisit.

New owners? Have Des and Barbara gone?

Yes, Des and Barb went back to Wiltshire - but it's now in the capable hands of  the new owners Rik and Wendy who took over in April this year  - they've been working extremely  hard and the site's looking really nice  - just got home from another enjoyable weekend!
